got around to reading Daredevil vol. 8 and my biggest issues are these (im sure theyve all been said before)
i rambled WAY more than i meant to so. under cut
i do not read daredevil for mystical demon exorcisms, at least not more than once every 50 issues
Matt is NOT this devoted of a catholic
Foggy is BLOND??? and barely in the run
the idea that Matt would ever choose Bullseye's life over Foggy is pretty ludicrous so it's not a particularly thrilling climax
it's also annoying that Foggy gets all sad and angelic about it because its literally BULLSEYE. "i know he was...as bad as they come. but i'm alive because he's dead." besides the basic inaccuracy of this* which i can excuse by it being a typical guilt response, i think this is a weird way to write Foggy, making him seem very weak and somehow more conflicted than literally Matt..everything is, as always, about Matt. not about Foggy's life being saved. I would say it could be a way to show Foggy having to face up to the decisions that a vigilante has to make and the violence of Matt's life, but this would suggest he hadn't experienced it before which is just not true: for example, Foggy was literally manipulated into killing his own girlfriend when Mysterio made her look like an evil monster. he's not naive and I don't understand why the default is to present him as that. also later Matt's internal monologue being all "(Matt's) selfishness that killed Bullseye"???? no?? Matt IS often a selfish character but i don't think saving his best friend's life over his worst enemies is a good example of this? ok this point got longer than i meant it to
the white suit was not for me, but it also felt very pointless when it immediately gets stained red again. the suit changes SO MUCH in this run
the ending with the kids is just really depressing. i don't personally super enjoy miserable stories about Matt messing up the lives of kids in foster care
every new daredevil comic run i read i want more and more for him to go back to pre-synergy Daredevil Unfortunately. i actually think the writing is relatively strong (aside from some weird pacing) but it doesnt feel remotely faithful to DD as a character and a story
i hope in the upcoming run by Phillips and Garbett they at least make Foggy a brunette again???? i am exciting to have a woman writing him however, i can only think of Nocenti having the title for more than an issue or two
as for positives.
I liked Matt being angry and selfish but self aware lmao. and the acknowledgement of his destructive tendencies harming everyone around him. i like Matt being smitten with Elektra. more of that would be great (though I think Elektra should just go by her own name).
also Nyla coming back!! great choice and i love her. she is truly awesome. (although, Matt suddenly being so concerned with the sin of sex outside of marriage is painfully out of character lmao. i guess coming back to life as a priest does that to a guy?).
Matt sensing the mushroom network thing was pretty awesome. interesting stretch of his powers in a way that doesn't necessarily take away from his disability.
Cole North's line about Matt and Foggy's current divorce era:
"You can shut out exes. Cut off friends. But you two are brothers, related or not."
*being that in fact he is alive because Matt saved him, and Bullseye is dead because Wrath dropped him.
“Foggy Nelson is not THAT important to Daredevil☝️🤓”
In law school, Matt tied up, stripped naked and put on display a guy for bullying Foggy. Matt was the one who paid Foggy’s hospital bills when Foggy had cancer. Recently, Matt LITERALLY went to Hell to save Foggy. But go on 🙄
