I’m going to be able to count the “yes” replies on one hand I think. How many of you have had a wine made from the Abouriou grape? If you have - how about a US Abouriou wine? If you’ve read this Insta more than once you know that I drink a lot of unusual wines. It’s rare for me to encounter a wine from a grape that’s new to me. But Old World Winery in Sonoma wine country has a bunch of wines from grapes I have never even heard of. Abouriou was one, and I tried their “Charm” wine from this obscure French Basque grape. This inky dark, dense wine is made from grapes from two vintages - 2014 and 2015. An aromatic powerhouse of a wine. Blasting dark cheeey, plum, all kinds of spices, menthol. On the palate an epic struggle between the fruit, the tannin and the acid. I’m not sure who won the battle but I truly enjoyed this unique wine. It’s not for everyone. But I guarantee if you really appreciate wine, you’ll at least respect this wine. Only 4 acres of this grape planted in the entire New World. —————————————————————- #oldworldwinery #darektrowbridge #sonomacounty #sonoma #sonomavalley #sonomawine #sonomawinecountry #russianrivervalley #russianriver #russianriverava #winestagram #instawine #abouriou https://www.instagram.com/p/CI4JPyRHKkX/?igshid=bm0blply3bn2
