Fuck you Lord Henry, I want to be satisfied! Also fuck you at all, your words are always the bitter and deadly poison of the book!

Anyone else in the dark academia realm always want to recommend going to museums to friends who are traveling somewhere you’ve been, but then you remember they aren’t that type of person, so you hold back your recommendations and it makes you sad?

i’m a second year university student, and im starting to become kind of irritated with the number of people who clearly don’t even read or analyze literature, but are entering the literary side of the dark academia community because they like the AESTHETIC of reading :/

I feel like I’m being controversial just by saying this, but it’s so ironic (and alarming) that books are becoming accessories. I don’t mean to gatekeep. Anyone can educate themselves, even if not in a conventional way, and I respect that so much. This post isn’t about keeping out people who learn in different ways.

This post is about the fact that the community is supposed to revolve around education, and I just don’t see that anymore. Lately, the dark academia tag is flooded with moodboards of stolen images of people studying (aka owners of the photos are not credited). I joined this community a year ago because I wanted to surround myself with likeminded students (or simply passionate learners) not people who idealize literature without reading it, or pretend they read classics just to seem pretentious.

Why am I on tumblr instead of reading The Picture Of Dorian Gray?

That is the question.

I'd intended to get a lot of studying done over the break. Instead, I've been obsessively engaged in classical Greek verse composition (elegiacs, gylyconics, hendecasyllabics). I've just written more poetry than I have done in years.

Related : I've been doing this at my writing desk, with drawers absolutely full of notebooks and good writing paper. But when the Muses call, I grab the first thing to hand, be it the back of a reciept from the pet store or an unread letter about my Artfund subscription.
