what is baldur's gate: dark alliance like? i've played the other baldur's gate games but dark alliance seemed quite different so i wasn't sure about it. but you like it? /curious :3

I played it a lot growing up, so I might have a nostalgia bias!

But it's a fun D&D-based RPG that was good in its time. You clear dungeons in locations from D&D lore. You find all kinds of loot that you can sell or keep to beef yourself up. It has a pretty dramatic but generic fantasy plot line.

It's real time combat that's outdated, so the controls are kind of janky. You pick which class you want from the start, archer, fighter, or sorcerer, and have to stick with that through the game. It's not too long, though, so the lack of customization doesn't bother me too much.

It has local co-op play, so I have great memories of playing it with my dad and stepmom.

context

at the end of each story a PC will get their embrace as an in game sequence that we will play out at the table. initially planned as session 0 content they were cut for time but i thought the end of each story would be a fun time to do this.

nelly: embrace unknown

maggie: embraced by woman she was having an affair with

morgan: embraced by prof and forced to eat friend to satiate sudden hunger

lisa: embraced while dieing of a horrific disease

sorina: embraced after falling from their position in the gang hierarchy, seen as a useful tool by local nos
