Energy Vampires vs. Dark Entities: Spotting the Difference ☽ ⛤ ☾

What Are Energy Vampires?

Energy Vampires are LIVING people who drain your emotional energy through their interactions with you. They leave you feeling completely exhausted after spending time together, often without even realizing the impact they're having.

These individuals typically lack self-awareness about their draining behavior and tend to feed off attention, drama, and emotional reactions from others. The good news is that energy vampires can often be managed through setting clear boundaries and limiting your exposure to their draining energy.

What Are Dark Entities?

Dark Entities are NON-PHYSICAL beings that exist in the spiritual realm and can attach themselves to your energy field. Unlike energy vampires, these entities work from within, creating persistent negative thoughts and influencing your emotions on a deeper level. They tend to resist positive energy work and spiritual practices, making them more challenging to deal with than human energy drains. Dark entities typically require intentional spiritual cleansing and protection work to fully remove their influence from your life.

Key Differences - The Source

Energy Vampires drain you through human relationships and social interactions. You'll notice the exhaustion specifically after conversations or time spent with certain people. The drain is external and tied to your interpersonal connections.

Dark Entities operate from the spiritual realm through energy attachments that influence you internally. Their impact isn't tied to specific people or conversations, but rather comes from within your own energy field and mental space.

How They Affect You

Energy Vampires make you feel tired and drained specifically after interactions with certain people. You'll notice that drama and chaos seem to follow these individuals wherever they go. The relief comes when you're physically away from them, and your energy naturally starts to restore itself.

Dark Entities create a constant heavy feeling that's hard to shake, regardless of who you're with or where you are. They generate intrusive negative thoughts that feel foreign to your usual thinking patterns, and the oppressive energy persists even when you're alone or in positive environments.

Red Flags to Watch For

Energy Vampire Signs include people who always position themselves as the victim in every situation, never show genuine interest in your life or well-being, and seem to create chaos and drama wherever they go. They're masters of guilt trips and emotional manipulation, using these tactics to keep you engaged and feeding their need for attention.

Dark Entity Signs manifest as sudden, unexplained personality changes that feel out of character for you. You might experience waves of fear or anxiety that seem to come from nowhere, along with a persistent feeling that you're "not quite yourself." These entities often create resistance when you try to engage in positive spiritual practices or self-care routines.

Protection Methods

For Energy Vampires, protection comes through setting and maintaining clear boundaries with the people who drain you. Limit the amount of time you spend with them, refuse to engage in their drama or negativity, and practice confidently saying "no" to their demands. Protecting your energy isn't selfish; it's necessary for your well-being.

For Dark Entities, protection requires more spiritual approaches like regular energy cleansing rituals and protective visualizations. Burning sage or palo santo can help clear negative energy from your space, while seeking guidance from experienced spiritual practitioners can provide personalized protection strategies for your specific situation.

Lilith is a demon. Medusa is a gorgon. Not every dark female entity from ancient mythologies is a dark goddess girlboss, and painting them all as such is missing the point. These beings are demonic and destructive and not to be messed with and they have always existed for a reason.

Oriande is Space Atlantis surrounded by the Space Bermuda Triangle, and the Alteans—

(and possibly the Galra...hey. They use-and-impose what are supposedly Altean time measurements on the rest of the universe as “standard time” even when they make absolutely NO sense...as you do as an evil imperialistic civilization that’s essentially Space Britain Meets Sparta. So...is it really so crazy to handwave astrophysics some more and say that Altea and Daibazaal occupied opposite ends of the same orbit around their sun? Or that maybe they’re quite literally two haves of the same planet that got blasted apart then captured by a sun’s gravity? It’d honestly explain the Alteans’ terraforming and healing balmeras and not batting an eye at “meteor/volcanic rain” while the Galra developped an obsession with taking resources to survive, “living forever”, and HEAVY interest in building an Empire well before Zarkon&Honerva-Haggar turned into zombies)

—are the direct decendants of The Ancients. Then for whatever they abandoned Oriande and sealed it so that only a few could enter. (Borrowing from Atlantis? Hubris. Just...hubris about what.) Or...the White Hole itself is the remnants of the blast that sent what became Altea and Daibazaal hurtling through space? (Handwaving Physics as to how what became the Alteans and Galra even survived that. Ancients duribility and technology shenanigans?) That’d honestly explain all the random chunks of rock floating around within Oriande’s White Hole.

Aaaand, back to the fundamentally juxaposed Altean and Galran philosophies—caution vs ambition—which are also represented in Alfor and Coran vs Zarkon and Honerva/Haggar, with Allura and Lotor being a more balanced mix of the two extremes. (And even the Blades philosophy of “knowledge or death”, caution, and cutting your losses to an extent.) Which neither caution nor ambition are bad. But taken too far can result in some pretty disasterous stuff.

As far as the quintessence field and the “dark entities” themselves? I’m going to go with that the quintessence field is both all the potential energy for every reality&timestream, and the entities are just as much as protectors of it as the Lions are. (So, the entities are kinda like white blood cells, and the Quintessence Field like TheWoodBetweenTheWorlds from The Magician’s Nephew.)

I think about what might’ve actually destroyed Oriande and created Altea and Daibazaal...might’ve had something to do with a Third Commet? Only, the White Lion we see guarding Oriande was the only Lion to survive (or maybe it didn’t, and it’s actually a regretful spirit, or somehow tethered because of the Ancients’ actions?)...which would explain why it insisted on being so selective and repeatedly testing who entered its domain? The Voltron Commet landing on Daibazaal (and possibly the Sincline one on Altea?) could’ve been an olive branch to the two cultures directly decended from those who initially wronged the Oriande White Lion. (The Altean Ship being destroyed by a quintessence field going into another reality might possibly be that Gift being retracted because of how things turned out with those piloting Voltron/Daibazaal’s actions vs risking it again.)

The following preview is of Chapter XIII of INNER MAGNETS, Volume Two of our quantum fiction/magic realism quartet, THE TAMMABUKKU CHRONICLES. The photo above is the title of this chapter, “Shekinah”, a word meaning the light between heaven and earth, and it is the female protagonist, Lia’s middle name as well as her pet name from her beloved, the male protagonist, David. This, chapter, set in Lia’s POV, is the first chapter of the quartet to go out of David’s POV, the first of the multiple POV’s introduced as it goes on.

The period between Good Friday and Easter was always a time of reflection for Lia, but this year the symbolism of the season resonated like never before.

At age ten, she began incorporating her Christian beliefs into her celebration of Ostara with her Wiccan parents, who had encouraged her to follow her inner leadings. Recalling the malevolent spirits with whom she kept company as a small child, and the intense temptation to use her power for evil, Lia gave profuse thanks to her parents, as well as the unseen forces guiding her, for their dogged, yet unobtrusive perseverance. They’d been there for her to draw upon, but the choice between good and evil must come from within, and there were times in early childhood that the right path had seemed bitter and repulsed her. At the time the details were murky, but she remembered walking that road in trust, and its terminus was a pool of blood and agonized screams. The wounded voice in her angry little head shouted that the forces of good betrayed her, thus, making the other path more alluring.

Since toddlerhood, her powers had been undeniable, and her abilities beyond those in the circles of even her high-level Wiccan mothers. Lamagir had known that his best chance of bringing her back to the fold was to link their minds while she was still a little girl. Hence, Beletum disguised herself as a compassionate young woman, when in fact she was a dark wicked force.

Lia recalled the fury that she’d felt as a small child, which no one, least of all herself, understood. Of course, her dark mother understood everything. The horrible pain she’d tap into demanded punishment, and her dark mother assured her those responsible would be punished. Until the unwavering love of her parents brought the sinister side of her power under control, her formidable powers made her a loose cannon, thus, dangerous to anyone who even looked at her the wrong way. At the time, she had no idea who it was that she abhorred so much, and later when she learned the story of how her previous incarnation ended, she knew one thing for sure: it wasn’t Nathaniel Ley. Her beloved father fell victim to his demons and caused her death as Cecilia, but she found forgiveness easy because of the depth of her love for him, which began long before he was Nathaniel Ley. It wasn’t until after the regression that she understood it was Lamagir whom all her rage was directed towards. She realized with revulsion that she was aligning her own power with Lamagir and Beletum to unleash the mayhem she created. Lamagir was nothing if not brilliant, and his touch could be so light that it was often impossible to discern. Perhaps she had to be taken in once more by his ingenious lies, if only for a short time, in order to understand what had taken root in her father’s mind. Lamagir. He creates the disease for which he is the only cure. How inviting it was to believe such a deception when you felt like the oddest child on the planet.

Steadfast love continued to pour down on her from this world and other worlds, and at last light entered her mind. Lamagir’s deceit crumbled under the luminosity of pure truth and, at last, she could hear the leadings of her parents and spiritual guides. And then there was the boy. No longer was he a distorted and veiled agony that she couldn’t comprehend—a torment her immature psyche couldn’t bear—he was the love that was her destiny. She’d managed to project herself to him once when they were small and heard his voice. They’d spoken mind to mind. He recognized her, and he was real. Sometimes she’d glimpse fragments of a sacred place that was theirs, and of images that seemed like memories. A snowy night, the sound of bells, a horse-drawn carriage... Playing, laughing, running, kissing in the woods... A tree with white flowers... Majestic old manor houses... In her dreams, she’d watch him from a distance. His face remained obscured, but upon her regression, she gained clarity. He was alive and he was also looking for her. They were meant to be together and it was part of a bigger picture.

Alcohol has always been a platform for entities to flow through. You become easily accessible to certain entities when you’ve consumed alcohol. It literally dulls any light in you, leaving you open to evil and dangerous entities with bad intentions. You quite literally become their playground. This is why those who drink are always having such terrible times and are always getting into trouble. Some examples: “You turn into a completely different person when you drink!” or “You are such a mean, angry and violent person when you drink.” It’s more than just dulling your senses and becoming inebriated. When you drink, you open your divine self up and things definitely do come in regardless of your spiritual beliefs. Alcohol does nothing but damage you in way too many ways. It’s scary when you analyze it for what it really is.
