Together Forever
Title: Together Forever
Pairing: Jack Frost/Hiccup
Rating: T
Summary: Whatever the risk, whatever the reason, whatever the life-threatening consequences, Jack was going to find him and bring him back. This is one nightmare that won’t be a reality… at least he hopes it won’t be...
P.S. Remember this picture? Well, here’s the fic that goes along with it! Much like the drawing, inspiration came from Sinister and also the fact that I wanted to write something not-so fluffy. Enjoy~! *dances off while laughing maniacally*
It was when his bare feet touched the ground that Jack Frost released a long-awaited huff, both out of grit and also relief that he was quick enough. He didn’t hesitate to press on past tree after tree and wilting bush after wilting bush.
He knew the path all too well.
The spirit’s blue eyes, filled with anger, spotted the familiar wooden bed smack-dab in the middle of the small open area in amongst the forest. He clutched onto his staff tightly as he approached the structure. The last time he saw it, he was curious and naïve to what it concealed from the world as he came across it unexpectedly, but now he looked upon it with disgust. Perhaps even rage.
This was the last place he wanted to end up today, but given the circumstances, he had no choice. In fact, it was vital.
Jack had arrived at the island of Berk earlier that day, hoping to spend the duration of it with a certain green-eyed Viking he had grown attached to for quite some time now. To be fair, he was eager to see his dragon companion (named Toothless) as well, but if he was being honest with himself, the teen (known as Hiccup) was the sole reason of the winter spirit’s visits. Something about him was just so addicting; the auburn hair, the freckled skin, the sarcastic and dorky nature or the forest eyes.
Whatever the reasoning for this soft spot, he liked him.
He dared even say he loved him.
When he landed on the island’s surface, something was not right. It was the atmosphere. Granted Berk itself wasn’t the most comfortable, if not tranquil, place on the planet, but there was something unsettling about how it was today. Almost as if a part of it was missing.
It took a peek in the Haddock house and one or two laps around the island for Jack to realize it wasn’t something. It was someone.
The pale teenager sat himself down on a tree branch to think long and hard about where Hiccup could have gone. Perhaps he was on another island exploring. Or maybe he got caught in a battle with a rival tribe…
No, no, don’t even think about that.
All of a sudden, his mind wandered back to about a week ago when he stayed the night in the young Viking’s room. He smiled to himself remembering how warm he felt in his arms and how his body seemed to fit perfectly against his own. Oh MiM, he wished he knew where the boy was so he could hold him right now.
He remembered Hiccup stirring a little before screaming. It was spontaneous and it was blood-curdling and it gave Jack more than enough reason to shake him awake. It took time, but eventually the Viking’s eyes opened. Once the green orbs met with blue ones, Jack cupped the boy’s face in his chilly hands.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
“Yeah”, Hiccup answered, struggling to keep his voice steady. “I-It was just a nightmare.” With that, he rested his head against the spirit’s shoulder and attempted to steady his beating heart.
As Jack stroked his fluffy hair, he caught swift movement at the corner of his eye. He turned to face the window of the teenager’s bedroom and saw nothing but the night sky. He squinted a little and examined the shadows of the entire room. It was when he focused his attention back on the person leaning against him that he saw the subtle movement once again.
They were not alone.
It was the memory of this incident that made Jack come to the conclusion of where he could be. And the immortal teenager could not be any more infuriated.
With a grunt, he hit the butt of his staff against the wooden bed boards and didn’t even wait for the loose pieces to hit the ground below before he jumped into the newly created gap and into the never-ending pit of darkness. After a while of venturing through unaware of what surrounded him, he found himself standing before a museum of hanging cages and stairwells that defied gravity in several places. His eyebrows narrowed at the familiar sight.
“Hiccup!” he called out as he proceeded to fly around the gigantic abstract lair. His eyes darted all around in hopes of either seeing the Viking or Toothless. Given the reptiles body colour, he knew the latter would be harder to pick out, but it couldn’t hurt to at least try. He wasn’t going to leave without the both of them and nothing would make him.
“Hiccup! Toothless!” Every once and a while, Jack would ricochet off of either a cage or a slanted wall, his head peering around every corner, praying that he would find them. He landed on a flight of stairs and jogged up and down them until he would either run into a wall that wasn’t there before or he would find himself exactly where he started.
Eventually, the spirit stopped running and instead stood in one spot. He circled about three times before leaning against his staff as he tried to catch his breath. Though he was close to running completely out of energy, his eyes never stopped searching the lair. In fact, the more exhausted he was, the more he refused to even blink.
“Hiccup?” he called out once more. This time it was a lot quieter than his previous cries.
Now that he was standing still, he took time to listen to the environment around him with high hopes that maybe he would hear Toothless roar in reply or the sweet sound of Hiccup calling his name. Unfortunately, all he could hear was the creaking of the cages and his own voice echoing throughout the hideout. Not one sound he hoped to hear.
Maybe he’s not even-
“You’re made it here quicker than I thought you would.”
All it took was the unexpected sound of the silky voice to cause Jack to spin his body around and blast frost and ice particles out of the curved end of his staff. Noticing his target had moved, he jumped off of the surface he stood on and flew into one of the many dark corners of the lair, teeth clenched and voice ready to give the culprit a good tongue lashing.
And did he certainly have some words to say to him.
As the spirit ran through countless shadows, he kept finding the paths he took altered in ways that he didn’t imagine. One minute he was standing on a sturdy bridge of stone, the next he was falling into the dark abyss, his arms and legs hitting hard (and often sharp) objects on the way down. Despite the throbbing pain of bruises and cuts yet to come, he shook off the aching and continued into everlasting obscurity.
Ultimately, Jack found himself face-to-face with whom the lair belonged to: Pitch Black. There was barely any light for him to see the male properly, but he could see his yellow eyes and an outline of his body. Normally Jack wouldn’t be as enraged with the elder as he was now, but what he had done made Jack’s blood boil.
And if the legends about Jack Frost were right about one thing, it is that you do not want to make him angry.
“You’re mad”, Pitch commented casually.
“Mad?” Jack replied with a humourless smile and a tone of voice that struggled to hold back his fury. “Oh no, I was just having a bad day and thought I’d take it out on you! OF COURSE I’M MAD!”
“And I’m not going to pretend I don’t know why.” At these words, Pitch clasped his hands behind his back, as if all was well in the world. Or at least his world.
“Where is he, Pitch?” the white-haired spirit demanded as he gripped his staff tighter and aimed it at the Boogeyman’s head. “Where’s Hiccup?”
“I must say I am astonished by your determination to find this boy”, the grey-skinned male said with a devious grin. His eyes started to wander around and gaze at the shadows surrounding them.
“Where is he?!”
“He must be a really good friend of yours”, he continued as if he didn’t hear Jack’s repeated question. “Or at least someone you’re so close to that you sleep with him.”
Pitch couldn’t help but chuckle as a faint blush started to form on Jack’s cheeks. Oh how he enjoyed watching the effects he bestows on people as he toys with them.
“Shut up!” Jack exclaimed, fighting the blush. “What did you do with him?”
“I could be wrong, but while I was dragging him and his pet away, I thought I saw one or two hickeys on his neck…”
A blast of frost and ice caught him by surprise, but he nonetheless remained collected. In response, he took a step away from where Jack had shot and smiled like a killer would towards his bounded victim who had no hope of escape.
“Where. The fuck. IS HE?!”
Pitch laughed softly to himself, obviously loving all the anger Jack was feeling simply from the fact that his Viking friend was missing. More sensitive than I thought.
“Closer than you think”, the Nightmare King finally answered.
Jack raised an eyebrow. It was an answer, but not one that he wanted. And was it just him, or did it look like Pitch was looking beyond his shoulder and… smirking?
“What are you-?”
A jolt of pain suddenly pierced through his head and sent him hunching forward, grasping the back of his head though snowy tresses. As he winced, he noticed his vision started to blur and that he was losing his balance. He soon fell on his side and onto the hard stone floor. He lost grip of his staff on impact and though he could not see clearly anymore, he could still hear fine. Regardless of his vision, he lifted his head and saw a blurry Pitch in amongst darkness and he heard the elder laughing.
“You’re stronger than you look”, the Boogeyman said.
Wh-what? Who…?
By now, Jack was beginning to lose focus of his thoughts as the throbbing pain increased. Before he could so much as move a muscle to reach out and grab his staff, two hands cupped the sides of Jack’s face and forced his head to look at a looming figure above him.
It was dark and it was blurry, but based on the feel of the hands alone, Jack could tell who it was.
“Hic…” was all the winter spirit could whisper before the figure enclosed his lips onto Jack’s. Any other time he would have returned the action without pause, but now… it was different.
It was almost as if this kiss was sucking out whatever consciousness he had left.
Suddenly, everything was black.
---
Restriction was the first thing Jack felt when he woke up. That and the pounding ache in his head that refused to go away. Whatever hit him must have been a hard, hard object.
His blinked several times before they were fully open. He wasn’t surprised that the first thing he saw were shadows, but what did surprise him was seeing a relatively small torch brightly shining with flames carelessly dancing. He squinted as he noticed something moving in the dark and his heart skipped a beat at what he saw.
Toothless…
Jack tried to speak, but he found that he couldn’t. Not just because he was gagged, but because he just could not find his voice. When he tried to call out to the comfortably sleeping dragon, it felt as though something was clogged in his throat, preventing him from speaking. He struggled to move his arms and legs, but his energy was drained for some reason and both limbs felt like they were tied together.
Before the pale immortal could do anything (or at least try to), a pair of feet came into his line of vision. No, he took that back: a foot wearing a boot and a prosthetic one. The way they moved was fairly casual, but Jack could tell that there was something off about it; almost unsettlingly formal. Dragging behind them was a weapon of some kind. It was black and resembled a farming scythe. The blade of the instrument was not gleaming metal, but rather an ebony material that had streams of black sand travelling all around it.
The sight of it alone made Jack’s stomach twist.
As the feet turned to face the winter spirit, the weapon was lifted off the ground and the butt of it was placed firmly on the floor. The body that the feet belonged to knelt down into Jack’s line of vision and balanced himself with the scythe. Just as the bounded teen expected, it was Hiccup.
No. No it wasn’t
Not exactly.
It was his eyes. Usually so green and full of life, curiosity and innocence were now void of any of that. In fact, Jack could see nothing. They were almost lifeless and the blank expression Hiccup’s face possessed certainly wasn’t helping in any way.
“Don’t worry, Jackie”, ‘Hiccup’ said monotonously. “Everything will be exactly as it was before. Just one little-” He stretched an arm out brush back some white hair on his temple “-alteration.” He pulled back and with a dismissive sigh, he stood up and held the scythe with both hands. The Viking stared down at the teen for a moment.
Jack knew what was coming. And he was scared out of his mind and wanted to desperately to move, scream, anything. But he couldn’t. He was helpless and there was no hope for him. All he could do was lay there on the cold, hard floor and stare straight ahead at Hiccup’s feet and Toothless sleeping so soundly in the dark corner of the room.
“Together forever”, he heard 'Hiccup' mumble. He would give anything to hear him say that in his normal voice once more. To hold him in his arms and kiss him until he grew annoyed. To run his hands along his back as they embraced. To feel the warmth of his body emitting onto his own. To touch his freckled skin as their bodies moved in tune with one another. To say “I love you”…
Jack felt a single tear stream out of his eye.
The last thing he heard was a grunt from ‘Hiccup’ as he lifted the sand-infested scythe and brought it down upon his head. Jack squeezed his eyes shut.
Then he felt nothing.
---
Hiccup nodded to himself as he finished off his sketch. The flame of the torch in the room wasn’t overly large, but it was bright enough that he could see the paper he was drawing on. With a bite of his lip, he placed the charcoal stick down and looked at his completed sketch.
It was of a Nightmare running through a winter forest.
A rhythmic knock at the door caught Hiccup’s attention. He glanced at Toothless, who had begun advancing to the door, and followed his actions. He opened it and leaned out into the shadowy hallway. With an eyebrow raise, he looked to his right. Then to his left.
He smiled.
Standing in the middle of the hallway with his staff resting on his shoulder was Jack, his head hanging down. The sound of both Hiccup and Toothless stepping out of the room made him lift his head up to reveal a mischievous (almost slasher) grin. Hiccup placed a hand on Toothless’ head who growled approvingly at the white-haired teen.
“About time”, the freckled boy said. He received a quiet laugh from the pale spirit.
Jack brought a hand up and brushed back some hair on his temple, revealing a black spot that stuck out immensely amongst his pale skin. It felt nice to get a bit of air on it, but really if was a force of habit that the male always had. With a suggestive wink, he held out his hand and motioned to the shady hallway. Hiccup walked towards him and allowed his own hand to intertwine with Jack’s and gripped the fingers tightly.
Almost out of instinct, the Viking swept strands of auburn hair back to expose, on his temple, a black spot that was a little larger than Jack’s. The snowy haired male leaned forward and kissed it tenderly, earning him a small, devilish chuckle from the freckled male. He smiled against the flesh before pulling back and leading him down the hallway with Toothless following behind them and staring blankly into the shadows that awaited the three of them.
Together forever.
For all eternity.
As lovers in nightmares.
