I’m not really a fan of the choreography of Luke’s entrance in S2E16, but it does set up this headcanon:

Clones were the first to be made into dark troopers, back in the EU. The new Empire couldn’t afford to lose its veteran troops, and it didn’t yet have enough non-clone recruits to replace them. Some of the phase zeros or phase ones might have survived. Outlived the Empire. Kept on surviving as their biological parts were replaced through aging or attrition. Most officers have forgotten they ever used to be people.

So say Moff Gideon has some of the old ones, from the original occupation of Mandalore. A veteran of the 212th or 501st - Boil or Appo or Coric or Woolley - who’ve somehow kept lurching onwards. Luke comes through the door, smashes through them like only a Force user can. While they’re lying on the floor with their optics dimming, hoping this time is the last time and they don’t don’t wake up, Boil or Appo or Coric or Woolley is also laughing with a mouth they don’t have any more. Not for years. They recognise that entrance. The cape. The boots. The drama. The commitment to aesthetics.

This is Skywalker bullshit for sure.
