Aw, man, as someone who hangs out in the fringes of the (male-dominated) lightsaber maker side of the fandom, I know I don’t have the proper kind of imagination to come up with a dream lightsaber, I have pretty simple tastes.

Kanan’s!  Which I actually have, though it’s still off with an installer getting painted/weathered and installed.  (I’ve got the Blind Knight from Solo’s Hold.)

Isn’t what? Isn’t what it looks like? A child wouldn’t be fooled by such absurdity; Skye, mouth still open in shock, gives her a judgmental stare.

“It’s exactly what it looks like,” Grant admits, finally recovering. He steps back, shifting his grip on Jemma that she might unwind her legs from his waist and be let down. Only once he’s sure she’s steady on her feet does he turn to Skye. “Which is why you can’t say anything.”

“Can’t—” Skye scoffs, though it’s a bit too high-pitched to sound disdainful. She’s still stunned by what she’s walked in on, clearly; the arm she flings towards Jemma nearly takes out the vase on the entrance table. “You’re married!”

1: favorite fic you wrote this year

Look To The Sky With Hope, definitely. Admittedly, that’s an easy answer, because I...only wrote two fics this year. Ouch. It’s been a hell of a twelve months, hasn’t it.

2: least favorite fic you wrote this year

...I guess by default it’d be the only other one I wrote this year. XD But I don’t really want to throw A Treatise On The Structural Integrity Of The Minibus under the lime-green glitterpaint minibus emblazoned with a fuschia dragon like that. I like it! I had a lot of fun working on it! It’s just that it was my palate-cleansing stress-relief fic, whereas Look To The Sky is I think some of my very best work to date.

3: favorite line/scene you wrote this year

that is...a lot of pirate AU to work through, ngl. Yike. Um...hmm. 

I think my VERY favorite scene would have to be tied between the Brethren Court vote (I had a lot of fun--and found a gratifying challenge in--writing the armada battle, but that vote had been a keystone scene since the fic’s conception) and Ezra becoming the next Ferryman. Ezra’s scenes just flowed, like he knew exactly what needed to happen and all I had to do was keep up. And I think the end result was spectacular.

my plans are to stay right here. tumblr’s new policy is annoying, but there’s no other site with a comparable format and i need my gifsets, you know?

if i get deleted, i’ll fight it - and until then i’m shineyma on twitter, ao3, lj, etc. but mostly i have no plans to go anywhere.

Hello, I am writing an alternate history fanfiction in which the characters of the show are part of humanity's early attempts at space exploration. The problem I'm having is the racism and sexism of the era would make it unlikely that the poc in the cast would be in such a program. I have no problem with abandoning historical accuracy, but I worry that simply ignoring the racism of the period would be erasure, especially since this would be the same time that the civil rights movement was (1/2)

(2/2)occurring. Any advice for me? Maybe make it so that the program is very progressive but put in mentions that things aren’t so good elsewhere?

Alternate History and Historical Accuracy 

I think you’re forgetting that much of what we think our history looks like has been whitewashed and People of Color (and many other marginalized identities) have been actively erased from those histories in media as well as textbooks. Yes, racism and sexism was very bad and caused immense problems and restrictions on people’s freedom, but it did not stop every single non-white male person from achieving goals. I think the movie Hidden Figures is a good example? The whitewashing of the Lone Ranger (who was actually based on a Black man and has been portrayed as a white man repeatedly), and such stories are examples of this. 

I’d say, don’t downplay the shit your character have to go through, but don’t let it stop you from writing PoC and/or women, or for that fact, disabled, mentally ill, non-straight, trans, etc. characters in your setting, especially since it’s an alternate history, meaning, it doesn’t have to be “historically accurate”, but it would be actually make your story more historically accurate ;)

If you were creating an aos chess set, which character would be which piece?

Um.....Grant would be the Queen because he’s crafty and versatile as fuck, Jemma and Daisy would be Kings because PROTECT THEM AT ALL COSTS, and......idk for the rest of them. Hard to assign chess pieces to characters, my mind doesn’t work that way. (As anyone who has ever played me at chess can confirm)

I’m gonna go outside the box, here: Kingdoms Come by Andi Horton is one of my all-time favorite Chronicles of Narnia fics. Everyone should read it--and everything else she’s ever written, tbh.

14. your favorite side pairings to put in?

I don’t really have a favorite? Skye/Fitz, Skye/Lincoln, Skye/Trip--definitely Skye is usually involved, but aside from that...*shrug*

15. your guilty writing pleasure?

I feel terrible about it, but I really do love writing Ward as a manipulative creep. It’s just so much fun! Seriously, I’m so awful. *shame*
