On April 2, 2021, at approximately 11:00pm, DMX had a medical emergency resulting in him being in a coma. He as rushed to White Plains Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition following a heart attack at his home. Simmons suffered cerebral hypoxia (which was lack of oxygen to the brain) as paramedics attempted to resuscitate him for 30 minutes.
As of midnight April 3rd, news outlets would learn of his medical condition and the news would rapidly spread around the hip hop and Rap communities; millions of fans from all over would pour their thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Later this day, his attorney Murray Richman confirmed Simmons was on life support.
As the days progress, Simmons's former manager, Nakia Walker, said he was in a "vegetative state" with "lung and brain failure and no current brain activity"; fans would still hold out hope for a miracle that unfortunately would never come (he would pass away April 9th at the age of 50).
