I would absolutely love a bit more on the "like arthur under the hill" universe. If it gets a bit more Peter/Nightingale than the original I'd be delighted, but I'd also be really happy with gen. Maybe a scene of Nightingale teaching Peter magic or Peter teaching Nightingale about something modern he doesn't understand? Only if you're up for it of course :)
You'dthink that someone who'd fallen into a magical sleep in 1945 and woken up inthe twenty-first century would have the greatest difficulty adjusting to thingslike high-definition television or fluorescent lights or gay marriage, butNightingale didn't blink at any of those things - in fact he seemed to berather pleased by at least two of them. But he'd never developed the habit ofwearing a seatbelt, and it showed. He lost it - for the Nightingale version oflosing it, which was so low-key as to be nearly unnoticeable - about the tenthtime we got in a car and I politely reminded him to put it on. Which was onlythe times I was driving, so it took a while to get there.
"Isit really that important?" hesaid, with a sideways glance at me. "We're hardly going to be going athigh speeds."
"Ican show you statistics whenever you like," I said. "Biggest roadsafety improvement of the last half-century."
Hedidn't quite roll his eyes.
"Andit does wonders for my peace of mind, okay?" I tried. "Attend a fewhigh-speed road accidents and it'll do wonders for yours, too."
Amazingly, that shut him up. But just to be sure, I found a couple of long review articles about their effectiveness - not actual scientific journal things, but with some nice graphs - printed them off, and put them on his desk. He's adapted toTV, like I said, but we're still working on computers and email. One step at atime.
"What'sthis?" he asked me.
"Seatbelts," I said. He scanned the first page, flicked through and paused on agraph, and a smile started to grow on his face.
"What?"I asked, because I wasn't totally sure I liked his expression. Then he lookedup at me, and I thought maybe it was alright, even though he hadn't saidanything.
"Youwanted to make sure I took this seriously."
"Ifyou don't believe me, believe the science."
Helooked down again at that, but I couldn't work out why.
"Anyway,"I said. "I have to go bash some Latin verbs into submission."
"Peter,"he said, as I was almost out the door. "Thank you, but your peace of mindwas quite enough motivation to be going on with."
"Yeah, well, we'll see what else that works on," I said before I thought about it,and then left before I could think about it. (When I told Lesley about thislater, she put her face in her hands and groaned theatrically, but she doesthis a lot when I tell her stories, so I didn't think it meant too much.)
I hopehe still read the articles, though. My peace of mind is all very well, but it'sphysics you really can't argue with.

oh man, I'm still watching critical role and I have so many feelings. I'm at about episode 50 and yesterday I made the decision to go back and start watchin the arc with the briarwoods. I was not prepared for the amount of Vax and Gilmore flirting. I thought this was a fan headcanon thing. Holy Shit. I love all of them so much.
Yeah, that was a real surprise to me too because I’m so used to fandom doing it’s thing - it was startling (and cool) to see a bisexual male main character in a m/m ship that was 100% canonical and treated as a legitimate romantic option.
I've been wanting to get into critical role for some time now and thanks to your suggestion to start at episode 39, I got into it very easily. I watched episode 1 a long time ago and just found it very hard then to follow and care for the characters but now I'm getting really invested. I'm at episode 46 now and I love it a lot, so thanks for the tip about not watching from the very beginning :)
You’re welcome (credit to @birdhead and @barrajagrn, who made the original suggestion). I think 39 works because it’s very much in media res, with not too much in-joke-y goofing around (which can also be fun, but you need some investment in the characters to like).
I don’t remember if I said it in the original post but if you keep going, once your curiosity about WTF is going on with Percy’s backstory reaches critical levels, I strongly recommend going back and watching 24-36 - it suddenly gives you a lot of context for various things, but 24 isn’t a great starting point unless you’re already invested (it starts with a long, long stretch of shopping).
accidental love confesison during a fight
I would totally write this for Guleed, because she is exactly the kind of person who would do this and then CHANGE THE SUBJECT in a really aggravating way and it would be great.
Hypothetically, since we haven’t met him properly yet, with Michael Cheung because now I’m wilfully misinterpreting “in a fight” and imagining him and Guleed getting in a fight with something/body else (because who doesn’t want to see Muslim Ninja Guleed and a guy whose job description is “Legendary Swordsman” tag-team a fight? nobody. nobody doesn’t want that) and he asked her on a date and the kind of date where they have to fight stuff and then Guleed accidentally confesses she loves him sounds PERFECT.
I went to watch the Haikyuu movie in the cinema by myself today! It was huge fun and I saw some teenaged cosplayers and that made me really happy. Also it was the german dub (no other way to see it here) and it reminded me so much of my childhood watching animes with all the same voice actors. Super nostalgic and delightful!
yooo that sounds like so much fun!! I heard so much about it
