this was fun, actually lol
I've never drawn, oh.... Half of these characters before? Which would be Soul, DW, and Jasper. They were adventures to get right >w> Lucky was a cheat since she's mine lol
Darkwarf belongs to @darkwarf, Ash belongs to @ashencreations

ouooouwuwuaahghhghhhhh.......i was up until 7:30 am rereading...right when i finished the Mob AU saga my dumb ass was like 'oh wait the Cinderella AU is good too'
it's really fascinating to me seeing how much whump has changed my writing, even though i was always into it. like, what i love about these fics is that they're Feel Good pieces, they make me smile and laugh, and that makes the crumbs of whump even more delicious. i'd definitely call it angst instead of whump in those fics, but you can tell they were whumpy ideas that i was just holding back from going into detail about.
and funnily enough, my whumpers were a lot less complex! they tended to be one-dimensional villain type characters that were just made to hate and rescue the protag from -- in this case, rescuing Dirk from Teddy, back when Dirk was a cis male.
and that is also interesting to me, how Dirk and Teddy's relationship changed as Dirk became a fem-presenting trans man. that obviously wasn't the main factor -- the main factor was fleshing out Teddy's character and deciding he was going to be 'redeemed' later on -- but i do think, because we are so conditioned to see bodies as 'male' and 'female', that i subconsciously started laying off Dirk more because i'm not a huge fan of 'female' whumpees. his whump became much more psychological and relationship focused than it used to be physical torture and punishments.
as tempting as it would be to bring back Cis Male Dirk, i think this just goes to show i have a lot of work to do in challenging my subconscious biases and writing fem-presenting whumpees the same way i would write a whumpee that does not come off as 'female'.
which also makes it interesting that we're incorporating Darkwarf as one of Dirk's headmates now -- a masc-presenting figure -- buuut a large part of that is also nostalgia and sentiment. Darkwarf was THE character that started Dirk's world and he's just so fun to write. i think it will be interesting depicting him as a part of Dirk mentally while, visually, they have different designs.
