🍿!
A couple months ago me and my ma went to my aunt’s house to visit, and my cousin and his wife and son came too, and we had a big cookout and it was a lot of fun
My cousin’s son (he’s like 9 or 10 I think) really loves pokemon cards, right? So a few days before we all got together, my aunt told him that when I was his age I used to collect pokemon cards too, and he got really excited and brought his whole card collection with him to the cookout to show me, and he thought I still knew how to play the game? But I never really knew how in the first place, and whatever I knew about it back then completely erased itself from my memory now ^^;;
He wasn’t discouraged though, and he said he’d teach me how to play! So he let me use one of his decks and he explained as we played, except I could sort of tell that whenever he and his friends would play, they probably made up a lot of the rules as they went along? He explained all the basics really well, but there were some cards that he would interpret wrong, or sometimes he would lose track of how much damage each of our pokemon had, little stuff like that, y’know? But I didn’t take the time to correct him or anything, I could tell he just played for fun, and besides, he was supposed to be the one teaching me, not the other way around
Anyway, I had literally just started playing, so I didn’t have a strategy at all and I wasn’t really into it, I was just sort of going with the flow of things, but I guess I was getting really lucky because I was doing just as much damage to his pokemon as he was to mine? And when I would look at his face, he was really into it! The atmosohere felt like an elite four battle, where I was a nonchalant older trainer, and he was the energetic 10-year-old challenger?? Lol we played maybe 4 or 5 games, and he won most of the time, but I won a couple too! When we were done he told me I was the strongest opponent he had ever played against, and he gave me a few of his cards?? And that really touched me because to me the whole thing hadn’t been that big of a deal, but he really gave it 100% and saw me as a strong and challenging opponent lol
It reminded me a lot of back when I still had my cards and me and my friends and my cousin would play together, and we would just BS our way through it and make up whatever rules we wanted just for the heck of it haha, it was really cute and also I might start collecting pokemon cards again
(Send me a popcorn emoji for a random story that’s happened to me)
