PowerGEAR Driver Tunes Volume.1

It’s been long enough, so here’s the next OC-based 8Tracks playlist. This time for the first three PowerGEAR characters: Takeo Minami, Darryl Watanabe, and Tommy O’Malley. Need I really say more? Ok, fine.

With this release, I’ve finally figured out a good formula for these kinds of playlists: 2 Songs per character.

One song that could easily pass as an Image Song (a song about the character or something to that effect), and one song that would be something they could drive to.

I’m also going to put out future ‘Battle Tunes’ playlists featuring music that would be played over a race if the story was an anime, like how Initial D always puts the Eurobeat soundtrack on a desperate CD release. That is when I actually get the damn story started.

Fun Fact: This cover was modeled after the cover for SEGA Touring Car Championship’s OST. I might do something similar for future Driver Tune covers, modeling them all after other Racing Game covers because why the heck not? Though the Battle Tunes will be most likely original.

GENTLEMEN...BEHOLD!!! I’VE FINALLY DESIGNED THREE CHARACTERS THAT AREN’T DELINQUENTS/FIGHTERS/OR ANY KIND OF CHARACTER BASED OFF OF MY USUAL TROPES!!!

Boy you guys probably never thought you’d live to see this day come, eh? Me finally designing normal OCs. Crazy right? But don’t worry, the next batch of characters after these three will go back to my usual standards~! (Until I make the next batch of PG characters that is).

Anyways, here are the first three characters for PowerGEAR, my Initial D/Wangan Midnight inspired, street racing story.

Starting off these trio of friends is Takeo Minami, our protagonist for PG who drives in a refurbished Subaru Impreza 22B STi that once belonged to his mom and former Street racer, Mitsi Minami.

Next is Darryl Wantanabe, childhood friend of Takeo, and younger brother of Jordan Watanabe. Drives a pretty sweet AE86 that I posted not too long ago.

And then finally, there’s Thomas ‘Tommy’ MacJohnson..Or Mc’Riley...Or O’Malley, haven’t decided on his last name yet. Anyways, he’s a good friend of Takeo and Darryl. He’s the kind of friend that you know good enough to call him a friend, but not enough to consider him a BEST friend. Y’know the kind. 

He also works at his dad’s seafood restaurant, and shifts between bus and delivery boy. And as for his ride, Tommy drives his dad’s old Volkswagen Golf Mk1. I guess you could say he’s the Takumi Fujiwara of the three, but he’s not into racing, not good at drifting, nor emotionally stunted/dead.

Not gonna lie, I was planning on having more to post along with these designs n’ stuff, but it’s getting super late, so I’ll add some more stuff to it whenever.

Also of Note: Since PowerGEAR characters are going to be mostly teenagers, they’ll have more than one outfit. So if you find your self drawing any of them, feel free to draw them wearing whatever you think that character would wear.

UPDATE: MAY 24th, 2016

Changed some details for Takeo. He’ll no longer drive a Subaru Alcyone XT as originally planned. Now changed to a Impreza 22B.

Also added pics of their cars made in 3Dtuning for a quick car reference. I’ll make beefier car descriptions with stuff like HP and Tuning info at a later date.

Also note while Tommy drives a Golf Mk1, a Golf Mk2 is pictured. 3Dtuning unfortunately lacks Golf Mk1 tuning, so I had to work with what it gave me. :/
