Poached Eggs Darwin, Darwin Café, San Francisco
Thanks for the best kale salad in San Francisco tip, Carleigh Connelly -- editor of Cook Taste Eat... showered in prosciutto at Darwin Cafe - SFGate
Roast Beef on Rustic Country Loaf, Darwin Cafe (San Francisco, CA)
Damn. Roast beef, marinated asparagus, watercress aioli, sweet onion, dijon, white cheddar. The asparagus and the beef together? The idea to have watercress aioli? The dijon and cheddar? The welcome subtlety of these white onions?
A fine sandwich. A balancing act of great ingredients. The right tone of cold, sliced beef. Everything just wet enough. Toasted bread that's completely complimentary to what's going on in the sandwich.
That's how it's done. I can still taste it. Coming back at some point to try more of their options.
Tuna Salad on Rustic Country Loaf, Darwin Cafe (San Francisco, CA)
Our first San Francisco post! Hadn't been to Darwin Cafe yet. It's at Rich & Bryant in SOMA. All their lunch panini are $9, the salads $8. Bottom line: everything on our table was great. A roast beef sandwich, a tuna sandwich and a pear-lettuce-blue cheese salad with glazed nuts and a slice of mild radish. The glass of Bitburger was an excellent compliment. First the tuna.
It's a house-pickled albacore tuna melt with pickles, dijon, cave-aged gruyere. I want to describe it further but... let's just rest on the terms 'balance' and 'spring' for now. I mean, perfect balance. So good. Makes you forget to breathe between bites.
It's all good. It's all so good. This cheese. Come here and eat this cheese.
