✨ Friendly reminder: if you keep yelling “I’m sick of [X] content” …the algorithm hears “YES, GIVE ME MORE [X]” ✨
Your dash isn’t broken - the algorithm is just doing exactly what it's designed to do.
I keep seeing posts like:
“I’m so sick of seeing [X] content and I never see [Y] anymore!!”
And I get it. It’s frustrating. But here’s the thing: algorithms don’t know the difference between love, hate, or rage - they only know engagement.
If you:
Reblog posts about [X]
Like posts about [X]
Click on [X]
Spend extra time reading [X] discourse
Or even just make a post saying “ugh I’m so tired of [X]”
…you’ve just taught the algorithm:
“This person cares about [X]. Give them more [X].”
The algorithm doesn’t care whether you’re praising it, hating it, or doomscrolling through it - attention = interest.
That’s why your dash feels full of [X]. It’s not Tumblr “forcing” it on you; it’s the system reacting to what you interact with. And everyone’s dash is different because everyone is feeding the algorithm different signals.
If you want to see more [Y] content instead, you need to actively train it:
Follow creators who make [Y] posts
Reblog and like [Y] content
Seek out and interact with [Y] tags
Avoid engaging with [X], even negatively
Otherwise, the machine just assumes you’re thrilled to be drowning in [X].
Your dash is a terrarium. Stop watering the plants you hate. 🌿
