Obsessed with the way she scurries back in "there is work to be done here !" Pantaloon bees are the cutest things.

Pantaloon Bee aka Hairy-legged Mining Bee (Dasypoda hirtipes)
Females (1-5) and males (6-7).
Dasypotda hirtipes - The Netherlands. Fact: bee genera inhabiting western Europe almost all can be found in North America. There are exceptions and Dasypoda is one of them. I like to think of the fluffy #Dasypoda genus as a Euro replacements for the #Melissodes they don't have
Excited about bees again but unable to go outside really so i've been looking through old pictures ! This is from june 2020.
Female pantaloon bee (i love her pantaloons !!) nesting, well, digging a nest. They usually prefer more sandy patches but in this street they always nest in the pavement cracks. They enjoy nesting together (even though they are solitary bees - they seem to be a living step in the evolution between solitary and social bees !) so there was like a few meters radius with just digging little bees everywhere on the pavement.

Pantaloon bee digging out a nest ! Have always been obsessed with the way they seem to move backward (promise you this is not a reverse video !)

[Video description: a small heap of coarse sand on a pavement. There's a hole in the middle out of which a bee crawls up, moving the sand backwards with her legs. Background noise is of a calm street, halfway through the video a car drives past, other than that there's birds in the background]
(So sorry for the horrible quality this became by uploading to tumblr 🥲)
