Just a quick reminder that AI isn’t just an offense to artists and creators. It’s draining massive amounts of power and resources at an unprecedented rate.
Resources that are actively being pulled from people in order to be used for AI data centers
Everytime you use chat GPT, or make those actors kiss, or create ‘AI art’, this is happening. We may not be there yet, but this will lead to loss of life.
Texas AI data centers water usage: As Texas faces a severe drought, the state's AI data centers consume millions of gallons of water daily f
as of 1/21/26, a large data center is being proposed in my county. we already severely struggle with pollution, high levels of PFAS and other contaminants in our water, and many corporations who make it more challenging for residents to live here. if you have a spare second, there’s a change.org petition against the building of this data center - your voice makes a difference!
AOC: This is what drinking water in Georgia looks like after Meta began data center construction in the community.
Locals and living historians are furious at the rise of AI data centers on historic lands. Now, lawsuits are flying like Civil War cannonbal
Hurrah for the Union Army in its holy fight against the Confederacy the evil AI overlords and the destruction of historic sites.
I'd pay way too much money to see a full Civil War era artillery assault on an AI data center.

1. Protein discovery gives new hope for longer COVID protection
“Scientists […] have discovered that the body's immune system strongly reacts to an internal protein from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, which mutates less frequently than the surface-spike protein currently targeted by vaccines. [… T]he discovery could open the way for the development of new vaccines and treatments that offer protection across multiple strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus[…] and help protect against the development of long COVID.”
2. A California Network of Black Churches Is Embracing Solar Energy, EV Charging
“[… A] multipurpose campus featuring a 13,000-square-foot solar-powered building with battery storage and ten EV charging stations[…] won’t only cut the church’s energy usage and costs—it’s expected to generate around $500,000 annually. [… T]he new resilience hub features a 5,000-square-foot gymnasium, an exercise room, a STEM lab, a youth lounge, a kitchen and classrooms. Powered by solar energy, the building can accommodate over 500 people in an emergency, providing them with electricity, as well as air conditioning and filtered air.”
3. June Cleaver the loggerhead turtle is released into the ocean off Florida after rehab
“The turtle was first observed having difficulty laying eggs in Melbourne Beach in June. […] Marine biologists on Florida’s Space Coast on Wednesday released June Cleaver back into the ocean before 300 beachgoers following a two-month rehabilitation at the Brevard Zoo’s Sea Turtle Healing Center in Melbourne, Florida. […] While at the center, she laid 113 eggs in a pool. Biologists buried the eggs in the beach where they are incubating, according to the center.”
4. In 2020, humans suddenly vanished from a popular bay in Hawai‘i. What happened next was remarkable
“Monitoring changes to the reef’s water quality and biodiversity, the researchers discovered that even a short break from tourism allowed this famous ecosystem to recover remarkably quickly. […] According to the researchers, the study shows how limiting visitor numbers and promoting sustainable tourism, not just in Hawai‘i’ but all around the world, could help preserve reef health without damaging local economies.“
5. Solar-boosted system turns wasted data center heat into clean power
“The system recovered 60–80% more electricity annually from the same waste heat[….] The twist is adding low-cost, rooftop flat-plate solar collectors to warm the data center's coolant stream before it reaches the ORC. That extra "solar bump" overcomes what has been the main technical barrier until now: data center waste heat is typically too cool for efficient power generation on its own.”
