Humm, earmarking this article for the next time I get motivated to do a dashboard re-design. We've got a lot of automated test report data at $work that I'm not doing a good job visualizing. My design process is typically "find something you like and copy it." Unfortunately, that doesn't leave much room for customizing the design to our specific task.
I'm looking forward to making a new dashboard using the guidelines and links from this article...perhaps I'll bump that priority up a bit :D
