Hey hey hey I just frantically watched unification bc of all the SPIRK IS CANON posting and I would absolutely love some clarity bc im confused. I saw the Nexus, and after that I was lost. I'm not really a tos fan but im genuinely confused about what happened in the short film. Also who made it? Like does it count as alpha canon? Hype and crying but lost.
Some have speculated that Kirk was able to visit Spock because he exited the Nexus. But given that we got Gary Mitchell appearing before we saw Kirk, I believe Unification is strongly implying that Mitchell was responsible. And Mitchell had gained god like powers in the Star Trek pilot Where No Man Has Gone Before. If you want to see this episode you can view it on demand on the free Pluto TV service.
There's debate whether this really counts as canon. Given that Rod Roddenberry (Gene's son) is an executive producer on this film who is also executive producer of all the new Trek series and Paramount staff are listed in the credits, I personally feel that it does count as canon. When the intellectual property rights owners are involved in a production even when it's not released by the studio, I would say that counts.
