8. What is their first date like?
This one I do have scribbled down in my notes to write about in the stories compilation, but basically, as mentioned at the end of Devil and the Dead Sea, they do go to get coffee for their "first date." I put it in quotes because, well, here is how I think it went:
Archie gets to the coffee shop like way early because he's only seen it in passing and hasn't hung out in Lilycove proper in years
Maxie is hellbent on showing up exactly 3 minutes early so as to appear normal about the entire situation (he is very Not Normal about the situation)
in the 24 minutes between when Archie shows up and Maxie arrives, Archie is hanging out outside the cafe
People, obviously, are very surprised and curious to see him especially in light of The Incident
Archie tries to casually explain he is meeting Maxie here without it seeming like a date
someone gets an anonymous tip that it is, in fact, a date
The Vans Start Showing Up
Archie grows increasingly alarmed that The Vans Are Showing Up and texts Maxie a warning as he starts getting swamped by paparazzi
Luckily, Maxie came prepared and has a small swarm of ex-Team Magma already there to shield him, who all arrive exactly 3 minutes early
After brushing off some questions, Team Magma holds off the rest of the reporters and Archie and Maxie duck and cover, run inside
At this point, there is hardly anyone in the cafe (everyone was outside interrogating Archie), the baristas knew exactly what was up, and they have a nice little window seat for them prepared, facing away from the street, so no reporters can see in
They laugh about how wretched and horrible that was, Maxie makes some remarks about Archie being so early, which Archie is bashful about. Maxie, likewise, is nervous out of his mind
Courtney walks in for a bubble tea at some point and sips it loudly in the back corner, watching, but Maxie is so nervous he doesn't even realize it's her
she may have been the one to give the anonymous tip
Archie and Maxie talk some more about how they're either going to have to restrategize their dates or just accept that they're going to be chased incessantly for the next couple months
No conclusions are reached, but Maxie makes fun of Archie for barely liking any coffee and yet suggesting the coffee date, and Archie makes fun of Maxie for Ordering a Death Drink
they have some food too and spend a bit too long in there because The Public is still waiting for them outside. They part ways outside the cafe in attempt to Make The Crowd Disperse
this is only a couple days after Maxie was released from the hospital due to The Incident and a couple days before their first court hearing
