I'm at a point of hating all Adrien ships both platonic and romantic because how shit everyone treat him in canon. I despise Love Square the most because why tf one of the most toxic couple I ever know canon in kid show!?

Does Adrien even have anyone by his side? His parents wearing his amok and using it willy nilly. Natalie out him to Gabriel when she find out his secret. Gabriel (and presumably Emilie) isolate him. Gabriel had done too many bad thing to Adrien. His girlfriend is both abuse apologist and abuser who rather grief him as her boyfriend than getting hates on for gaslighting.

Nino and his other classmates barely know him. They also keep setting up Adrienette without Adrien knowledge and consideration for his feelings. The fact they all have low opinion on Chat Noir doesn't help. Nino called Chat Noir obnoxious and accusing him of home wrecking. Marc and Nathaniel comic mostly about Ladybug made up solo adventure.

And Felix is Felix. That Dude doesn't give a fuck about Adrien outside of him being fellow senti and even then he would easily fuck Adrien over if it's for Felix own interests. Hell, ever since season 3 I couldn't even trust Plagg having Adrien interest in mind.

Adrien doesn't have any safe person. Even if he made a new friend Sublimation show that Marinette can't even have him that.

Exactly, though? I have to suspend my disbelief a lot to buy any Adrien ship these days, and that's for ships that aren't outright abusive like the main Adrinette.

i never understood the whole "chat noir doesn't deserve or need to know highly secret guardian information" because i don't even know wtf they're talking about? potions? that's what we're safeguarding from him? information about how his own powers might work potentially from the grimoire? you'd expect something actually worthy of safeguarding when they talk like that. but, no, it's something he should probably know when their team actually only stands to lose if he doesn't have that knowledge. you just get syren over and over if he has to depend on someone else to get a power up transformation.

....and now i remember those transformations barely have any uses, too. top secret information we totallyyyyy need stashed away. lol, lmao even. whatever. now in s6 everyone has access to this. how they have it is your personal headcanon, but it's insane to me this was ever a talking point from how nonsensical it is.

The thing about the justifications for Cat Noir being kept in the dark is that it’s retroactive justifications made up by the fandom, because the canon NEVER addressed this. The canon just seems to genuinely have forgotten that you need some kind of justification for this kind of nonsense, or it thinks that anything Marinette chooses to do with whatever information she wants to is her right. So, with the Marinette-justifying fandom scrambling to justify Marinette’s decisions, they decided that Cat Noir was simply “unworthy”, whatever the hell that means because anything that makes him "unworthy", Marinette has done more and worse.

It seems the miraculous fix it community died sometime after season 4, because I went looking for s6 fics that center Adrien's reaction to the reveal and have actual consequences for Marinette and... they're just not there. So many s6 fics are tagged with "Marinette needs a hug" or "Marinette needs therapy." The show actually managed to create a fandom of almost exclusively abuse apologists. Its almost impressive how fucking evil this fandom has become towards anyone who cares about abuse survivors.

It sucks as someone who had a tumultuous childhood.

I've pointed this out before, but the fandom became absolutely TOXIC towards analysists and analytical watching as the seasons went on, and the S5 finale was the last nail on the coffin. That finale made it obvious that this show has exactly one priority and that's Marinette, FUCK anyone else. And it's really hard to maintain an analytical viewing when you have to watch the show through a lense like that, or contend yourself with the fact that the show pissed on all the analysis written about it before that point.l

ANY fanfic trying to approach the canon with any perspective other than "oh, poor Marinette has such a rough time" HAS to be a fix-it fic.

I really hate how the show going from "Yes they are the akuma victim, because HM preyed on their negative emotion and make them do bad things" to "Um... Maybe they're not a victim after all, they can break free if they don't want to be akumatized." because we're going from Pixelator where he got forced to submit to HM order to S4 where people not only break free from the akuma right and left, there's also Jalil who WANTS to be akumatized. So WHAT! ARE! THEY?! Marinette who's willing to get akumatized in order to get Cat Noir's identity, Nino who want to killed Cat Noir until he realized that Alya is only loves him, are they victim or an accomplice???

Yeah, like, making people able to resist Akumas was one of the worst mistakes the show ever did, specifically because it opens up the Pandora's Box for us to even have these kinds of conversations. Like, Lila used to be a standout because she was the only one who seemingly got Akumatized willingly. She seems to remember what happened and the Akuma retreating leaves her standing when everyone else was kneeling on the ground, brought low by their moment of weakness.

This has probably been discussed before but thinking about this past season reminded me that Marinette's actually really boring as a character. It's something that I could ignore in the first couple of seasons when the show was just developing, but after 6 seasons and 10 years of being on air, the only things that the show has consistently reinforced in her character is that she's incredibly self-centered and selfish and that her only reason for existing (both in-universe and as a character from a writing perspective) is Adrien. The idea of a protagonist being an outsider to the villain's family drama would be interesting in the hands of competent writers. But not only does ML make that premise boring, it's also trying to insist that Marinette is the very center of the universe and that nothing would happen without her when the truth is that she's easily replaceable both as the protagonist (by Adrien, for example) and as Ladybug (since the miraculouses can be used by anyone and the transformation phrase is the same for all the miraculouses in French).

Yeah, like, at first you think Marinette being so average is meant to make her relatable, but she's such a blatant wish-fulfilment protagonist that it's utterly bizarre how little the plot of the show revolves around her. I mean, like, Adrien is the one all the plot threads connect to, but let's ignore how he might feel about anything and instead focus on how this random girl feels about everything.

Plot points we still don't know Adrien's opinions on

Chloé as a superhero (you know, HIS CHILDHOOD FRIEND)

Félix becoming a member of the team

Marinette's stalking him

Him and Kagami breaking up

Gabriel being Hawk Moth

Him being a Sentimonster

Nathalie being Mayura

The rest of the team operating on completely different rules than him

Alya getting nepotism hired and promoted past him as the more experienced hero

But BOY HOWDY do we get to hear ENDLESSLY about how fucking MARINETTE is feeling about ALL OF THIS. Except for like the Sentimonster thing. Season 6 seems to be ignoring they made Adrien one.

And, like, it's even worse in season 6 because we still have every single plot thread tying back to him, if the whole "Cerise wants to ruin Marinette so that she can win Adrien over" thing is canon. The Kingdom ties back to him, he's Gabriel's son and Noé is trying to get his dad's company from him, and Marinette is lying to him about things he should already know.

Do you think the reason there's a sudden influx of bad parents or bad family life stories coming from the rest of the cast isn't just because the writers don't have any better ideas to flesh them out or as a cheap way to get them to be more likeable but also possibly maybe because they're trying to downplay how bad Adrien actually had it? I was getting this icky feeling ever since Nino's episode dropped and they showed a quick montage of Marinette, Alya and Adrien's home life in contrast to Nino dealing with his arguing parents like he has it the worst of them. Maybe Adrien is better off with Nathalie but the way they've been brushing his recent orphan situation to little crumbs on the side in favor of Marinette wangsting at the center and all the other characters dumping their family issues this season, it's like they're de-emphasizing what happened to him.

You know, that’s starting to seem more and more likely as we get more of these episodes. Like, we haven’t had a single episode that focuses on Adrien’s grief over him being a literal orphan, but we sure have time to make an episode about Marinette crying, screaming and throwing up over her racist grandpa dying, while the literally an orphan boyfriend she’s gaslighting about his father comforts her.

This show is just so respectful towards Adrien's character, what he stands for and what his arc tells us, according to the show glazers. They know this because Adrien's character model has floppy hair, meaning he's DEPRESSED. That's why these BIT PARTS get as much focus as the Marinette-centering narrative can manage to their family situations, while Adrien's experiences are constantly filtered through how Marinette is feeling.

That’s the cliché, right? The widower resenting his child on some level because if only his wife had gotten an abortion… But, no, I don’t think so. Gabriel sees Adrien as an extension of Emilie, that much is true, but I have been in the camp for years that Gabriel loves Adrien, it just doesn’t make a difference, because Gabriel’s love is fundamentally selfish.

Another important aspect of Emilie and Gabriel’s relationship, as shortlived as it is in canon, is that they’re both such RICH PEOPLE. Emilie’s idea for how to get a child is not adoption (she’s rich and influential, they could have adopted) but to make a “perfect” designer baby with a remote control/kill switch. Similarly, Gabriel’s reaction to Emilie’s years of decline and death is not to try to move on, but to try to challenge that. Gabriel blaming Adrien for Emilie’s death would require him to ACCEPT Emilie’s death first.

Imagine that, by some miracle, the MLB writers have been given freedom to wrap up the series in a way that makes sense to anyone who doesn't unconditionally worship Maribug. What would you have them do?

At the very least, Maribug needs to put on her big girl pants, stop whining about her incredible artificially perfect life and actually DO SOMETHING to stop Chrysalis/the Kingdom.
