sorry im kinda new to the avs fandom but who is hakstol?? why is he evil?

dave hakstol is the special teams coach. basically his focus is power play and penalty kill. he was hired at the beginning of the season after leaving the kraken and was supposed to be helping the avs’ powerplay but. as you can see—it’s kinda fucking bad rn.

it’s mostly a running joke because obviously there’s more than just coaching and designed plays that goes into making a pp work but,,, it definitely worse than last season. from 2021-2025 the avs averaged around 24.4% and rn they’re at 16.1% around im not gonna say its bad but it could be way better.

so avsblr blames him for the pp but not the pk bc it is good. just not recently.

If you’ve been away from the playoffs, during Monday night’s game between the Panthers and the Lightning, Emily Kaplan dropped what I would call a bomb— saying that ‘significant players’ on the Kraken told Ron Francis that they didn’t want Hakstol as the coach of the team anymore. IMO, a lot of outlets immediately took her report as fact and ran with it (and to be fair, she said it quite definitively!) even though Ron said, in his presser earlier that day, that that wasn’t the case.

So today Ebs called into Ian Furness’s KJR show (Ian is a local sports radio guy, mostly in the football sphere but covers most Seattle sports and has been doing a lot more hockey stuff in the past few years). Ian played the whole clip for him and then asked him to respond and Ebs very flatly said no, that wasn’t what happened. He also went on to say that that wasn’t how the team operated and they respected Haks as a coach. Now, I wouldn’t ever expect anyone in the org to actually confirm this report even if it were true but a flat denial instead of hedging around it reads to me as no, this didn't happen.

Now, two things can be true: players could have been frustrated with Haks (and there were legitimate things to be frustrated over) and whatever Emily Kaplan heard could have gotten twisted and she wasn’t trying to report incorrect info. The truth probably lies somewhere the middle and we’ll never know the whole truth of it. But I'm really glad to hear it straight from a member of the team, because it always came across in clips and interviews as the team respecting Haks and to hear that they wanted him out was a little shocking, to say the least.

Also, unrelated (or maybe not) but this feels like a very captain-type of thing to do. Just sayin'!

now i can say all this without ending the day worrying about how employed i am BUT . i do think it woulda been really funny it the kraken committed to THEE most messy breakup (firing) with hakstol you ever seen. never lost the room! players threatened to walk if he stayed. players comin in to say thats not true. gotta up the ante!!! well he said she said he said kinda games . i need people to be trackin who likes who through their instagram following lists and hak has buoy unfollowed on every single platform but buoy likes all of his instagram posts first. buoys on his priv twitter. theyre still mutuals there. they have his face painted above urinals so you can stare deeply into his eyes as you take a wizz. they burn whatever he leaves behind. whoever burns it is sobbing openly and theres mascara getting everywhere. someone leaks group chat screenshots and they are all yearning poetically about someone they only refer to as "that man". if it dont look like a high school break up i dont want it. jared mccann head coach .
