"if someone flipped this joke" but they do. regularly, several times a day, in all of the league's social media platforms and beyond. open the comments of any bardown post that features a pwhl headline and you'll find plenty of meatheads ready to tell the pwhl it's the sports equivalent of a "dei hire," and hurl misogynistic insults and even threats at its players. making a passing joke at the expense of the much larger, much better paid, much more secure league that is also riddled with sexual assault allegations and misogyny, is not even remotely the same as the "jokes" leveled at women athletes every single day. and i don't intend to police what these women who have to face that a lot more directly than fans do on how they should or shouldn't react to misogyny. hayley scamurra is the daughter of an nhl player, a 2026 gold medalist, and with all of that and her lifelong love of hockey, had to experience the humiliation dealt her team by the usa men's team and their bullshit. hayley scamurra gets to call them whatever the hell she wants.
