GINGER has just released her debut EP, Baby It’s War Outside, and will be playing an intimate gig tonight at The Social.
Produced and co-written by Dave McCracken, Ginger released a video of the first track from the EP, a gorgeous cover of Black Boys On Mopeds, but the rest of the EP is made up of brilliant original tracks all about our favourite season, Christmas- but this is Christmas with a twist!
As DIY said of the tracks..
There’s no ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ here though. Instead we’ve got a Paul McCartney-riffing tune in the shape of ‘Comin Up For Christmas’ and a lilting, sombre ode to ‘Xmas at Spoons.’ There’s even something of a feminist Christmas anthem in ‘Don’t Shave For Me Mrs Claus’. About time!

DIY have premiered the excellent debut S.O.S by new artist KRUSOE- which was co-written by Dave McCracken.
Taken from his debut EP, Give Up The Coast, which is due for release later this year, DIY say this of the track:
On the surface it sounds effortless, but unpack ’S.O.S’’ elements and it’s like drawing pieces out of a jenga stack. Remove one part and it’s at risk of toppling. Xx-style guitars share space with earnest vocals. Midway through, soulful handclaps step in out of nowhere. And throughout, the track sounds like a spaceship ready to take off.

With EMMY THE GREAT’s third studio album, Second Love, out today, we thought we’d share with you the video for the record’s first single, Algorithm, which was created using just that!
Speaking to Nowness, Emma-Lee Moss explains:
"With the help of Nicolas Seymour-Smith, a programmer and artist, we built a machine that generates music-video treatments using natural language processing algorithms. We taught the machine what a music video plot was by feeding it synopses of music videos—classics like "Thriller" and "Scream", and modern favourites from Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. The machine began generating its own plots based on what it had learned, and 'Algorithm' was born.”
