Switzerland: Brienzersee (Lake Brienz), Interlaken, Thunersee (Lake Thun), and Bern, the capital of Switzerland. As we drove from Innsbruck, Austria into Switzerland just south of the Bodensee (Lake Boden/Lake Constance) we went over a bridge and the only thing that let us know we’d entered Switzerland was a Swiss flag on a building and a police officers with the Swiss flag on his uniform. The Swiss are not a part of the European Union, so they still have the Swiss Franc as their currency instead of the Euro. We needed to use the restroom at a rest stop but it cost a franc to use the toilet...we had no Swiss Francs and when we tried to buy some, the cashier refused to accept/trade any Euros. He would also not sell us anything with Euros to get change. So...we had to hold it. LOL!!! We drove on and found a McDonalds and an ATM. We got francs. Bought a Big Mac, chicken nuggets, and one soda. IT COST US ALMOST $20 IN FRANCS!!! Yep...the minimum wage there is almost $20/hour...so...yep...Big Macs are almost $20!!!
On our two-day drive through Switzerland, we did a loop which went through Zürich, Lucerne to Interlaken where we spent the night. We then we continued on to Bern and back into Germany.
In Interlaken we had a Swiss fondue dinner that was to die for!!! Cost a lot...but worth every franc!!!
Burg (Castle/Ruins) Sterrenburg near Kamp-Bornhofen, Germany along the Rhein River. Burg Sterrenberg is the castle of one brother; just across a small draw is Burg Liebenstein, built by the other brother. Neither castle is a part of the normally visited castles along the Rhein. We highly recommend visiting these two castles...a real unique experience compared with the normal tourist sites. Here is story of the two brothers:

Saga of The Hostile Brothers
The castles Liebenstein and Sterrneberg, situated on the long stretch of peaks above Bornhofen are among the most popular on the Rhine.
The best-known version of the legends tells of the two sons of a count, whose names were von Sterrenberg and von Liebenstein, who cheated their blind sister when they divided up their father’s inheritance.
When it came time to apportion the gold pieces with a scoop, they turned it upside down when it was the sister’s turn to measure her share. While it felt like the scoop was filled to the brim, in fact only the bottom was covered. The blind woman used her share to have the cloister built at the foot of the castles.
The wealth acquired through treachery brought the brothers nothing but trouble. They became such enemies that they had a wall built to separate their castles.
One day, when the rich inheritance had been wasted, they tried to put their differences behind them. On that occasion, they agreed to meet for a hunting expedition early in the morning. The one who woke first was to awaken the other by shooting an arrow at the other’s window shutters. And so it happened. At the very moment when the arrow was shot into the air, the targeted shutter opened and the bowman was horrified to see the arrow pierce his brother’s heart. The unintended killer of his own brother could find no peace; he travelled to the Holy Land and died there.
