The only Scotsman to play for Italy, Falkirk born Giovanni "Johnny" Moscardini died on July 15th in Prestwick. No doubt related to the family who have the shop in Manor street in the town, Johnny played for, AS Barga, Lucchese, Pisa, Genoa and Campbeltown Grammar School FP.

In total through the 1920s his robust "Scottish style" saw him play nine times for his country netting seven goals - an impressive strike rate by anybody's reckoning.

After retiring from Italian football Johnny returned to Scotland to manage his uncle's shop in Campbeltown, explaining how he ended up playing for their FP. He later established his own business, the Lake Café, in Prestwick. He lived in Prestwick until he died on this day in 1985 at the age of 88.
