Emmrich: The Lighthouse has been wonderful for Manfred. He’s progressing so quickly these days.

Davrin: Maybe. But can he fly like Assan?

Emmrich: He can open a door.

Davrin: Assan can track and kill darkspawn.

Emmrich: I’d rather Manfred learn to gather flowers.

Davrin: Assan can eat those flowers. He can also dive underwater and catch fish.

Emmrich: Manfred can be quiet and well-mannered.

Davrin: Yeah? Well...you know...Assan...

Emmrich: Go on.

Davrin: You’re raising your twin, Emmrich.

Emmrich: Well, I might say the same.

Davrin: Emmrich, I think you’ve got to let Manfred learn some things on his own.

Emmrich: Such as?

Davrin: You know, like any kid. Let ‘em fall, scrape their knee.

Emmrich: That could dislodge his patella bone. Hinder his ambulation!

Davrin: Or he might learn to walk and not fall next time.

Emmrich: That’s a harsh thing to wish on a spirit who yearns only to experience the world.

Davrin: Falling down’s a big part of the world.

Emmrich: Manfred’s body is an intricate construction! There’s no need to bruise it, or him, unnecessarily.

Emmrich: I promise there’s great beauty in the Fade, Davrin.

Davrin: The light show’s pretty, I guess.

Emmrich: Its virtues go so much further.

Emmrich: Trickles of magic suddenly revealing great oceanic patterns. Hidden pools of lost memory.

Emmrich: And moments where we may break the bonds of time.

Davrin: (Laughs) I don’t doubt you, Emmrich, but…

Emmrich: But?

Davrin: It’s a good thing you’re on our side.

Davrin: Emmrich. Have I got this right? Manfred’s a wisp?

Emmrich: A wisp of curiosity, to be precise.

Davrin: And this wisp was so curious about our world, it just couldn’t wait to come here, animate a body and…serve you tea?

Emmrich: Manfred enjoys boiling the water. He’s mesmerized by the steam.

Emmrich: How are you faring with Assan, Davrin?

Davrin: It’s all good. He’s behaving, minding his manners, quiet as a mouse.

Emmrich: So all the squawking from your room...

Davrin: Hmm? Must’ve been Taash throwing a temper tantrum.

Emmrich: I distinctly heard a griffon shriek.

Davrin: Okay, yeah. Sometimes he acts out.

Emmrich: You must instill some discipline. Manfred needed to be taught boundaries as well.

Davrin: Uh huh. Except Assan’s a griffon.

Emmrich: And clever. That will only increase, believe me.

[datv-banter]

Emmrich: I assure you, the Fade is real, Davrin. It’s the foundation for everything we experience.

Davrin: You know what’s real? A Rot Claw terrorizing a village. Eating their chickens. Then their goats. Then their children.

Davrin: So when the villagers hire someone like me to kill it, we all agree on the problem.

Davrin: But your Fade? Put a dozen Emmrichs in the same room, you’d get a dozen different opinions.

Emmrich: But that’s its glory!

Emmrich: Realities splintered across impossible lines, new discoveries each time we scry them.

Davrin: Enjoy your nightmare.

Emmrich: Am I right in feeling that something deeper about the Fade troubles you, Davrin?

Davrin: The whole thing does. Not sure it’s real.

Emmrich: Its quite literally within reach of the Lighthouse.

Davrin: I know what I see out my window. And yeah it’s strange, but that could just be a patch of weird weather.

Emmrich: “Weird weather.” Oh, my dear man. The things I could teach you.

Davrin: My Dalish clan already tried.

Davrin: It all boils down to me believing in power you can’t touch from a place you can’t see.

Davrin: You ever clean your own dishes at the Necropolis, Emmrich? Or is that a job for skeleton butlers?

Emmrich: I was an apprentice once.

Davrin: How about now?

Emmrich: Well, I...(clears throat) am perfectly capable of scrubbing a pot.

Davrin: That's good. You're on clean-up tonight.
