Main problem w so many other social media platforms is that…there is an algorithm that automatically recommends your acct to “people you might know.” When we had a system tiktok to just goof around and be silly while we figured ourselves out, one of our irl friends was recced it and it turned out ok thank GOD but if that had been someone we worked with? A family member? Dude.
And it’s the same with instagram, or twitter. Tumblr is one of the few social media platforms that does not try to connect to your contacts, and still has like…an actual social aspect (“move to dreamwidth” dw is great but it doesn’t have the same kind of feed! Tumblr is this happy middle ground between “not being tossed into an algorithm feedback loop” and “having no feed at all unless you Seek Things Out Specifically, there is very little chance to just Stumble Across smth”)
I don’t know if I’m making any sense but if/when Tumblr does finally kick the bucket, there just isn’t anything quite like it right now to fill the void!
I’m just rambling and sad because the internet has changed so much in just the last few years for the worse.
(I guess this is all the more reason to finally learn to code and make a neocities website but STILL)
