CATS celebrates their 45th anniversary today, with the show having opened in London (for the very first time) on 11 May 1981.

Over the last 45 years, the musical has given joy to millions across the world.

Part of the celebration also includes some jewellery made in celebration that you can purchase.

Andrew Lloyd Webber also shared photos from London, mostly from the original cast and pre-production.

Here's the two clips from the 1994 UK tour TV spot - Tugger's number, and the Jellicle ball.

Because it was shot in the BBC studio at Pebble Mill, the set is different (and smaller!), and the orchestra is on one side of the stage. It's also not a full cast: most notably, Munkustrap is missing, and Alonzo fills in for him (David Ashley, who later went on to play Munkustrap a lot in London). Most of the missing cats are the older cats who don't take such an active part in these numbers anyway (Jenny, Jelly, Skimble, Gus, Deuteronomy, and of course Grizabella). Some ensemble cats (Etcetera, George, Victor, and Bill Bailey) weren't in this tour at all, which is why they aren't present - though Electra is still here!
