Lou Dobbs remains under contract at Fox News but won't be back on the air after he hosted his last show Thursday.
Stephen Battaglio at LA Times:
Fox News Media has canceled “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” the program hosted by television’s staunchest supporter of Donald Trump and of his assertions of voter fraud in the 2020 election, The Times has learned.
Dobbs’ program, which airs twice nightly at 5 and 7 p.m. Eastern on the Fox Business Network, will have its final airing Friday, according to a Fox News representative who confirmed the cancellation. Starting next week, the program will be called “Fox Business Tonight,” with rotating substitute hosts Jackie DeAngelis and David Asman, who filled in for Dobbs on Friday.
Dobbs, 75, remains under contract at Fox News but he will in all likelihood not appear on the company’s networks again. In addition to his Fox Business Network program, he occasionally turned up on the Fox News Channel as a commentator.
The cancellation comes a day after voting software company Smartmatic filed a $2.7 billion defamation suit against Fox News and three of its hosts — Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo and Jeanine Pirro. The company claims the hosts perpetuated lies and disinformation about Smartmatic’s role in the election, damaging its business and reputation.

Dobbs’ program typically averaged around 300,000 viewers a night in the 7 p.m. Eastern hour, the largest audience on any business news channel. But his program was a loss leader for Fox Business Network as major advertisers steered clear of it, likely out of fear of consumer boycotts.
Fox News cancels massive Trump hack Lou Dobbs' Fox Business show Lou Dobbs Tonight.
Between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, there has been an increased wave of right-wing media figures calling for an end to the economic lockdown in place to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S. As they’ve begun to explain rather openly, the cost for jobs and businesses is just too much for what they deem is a low death figure being reported.
Left out of all these discussions is a key detail: The reason that COVID-19 death predictions have been revised down from over 2 million to a (still horrific) figure of up to 240,000 is precisely because of the social distancing and stay-at-home orders. If that regimen were to simply be lifted, then the projected deaths would rise again — especially if the health care system were to become overwhelmed.
But as they miss this point, many of these right-wing media figures seem to think even this reduced level of deaths has come with too high an economic cost.
Fox "News" and the RW media's #1 priority: prioritize the economy over saving lives to deal with Covid-19.
As the number of people affected by coronavirus increases in the United States, some on Fox News are using the virus’ presence in Democrat-led states like Washington and California to attack homeless populations there, arguing that homeless people undermine Democrats’ capabilities to handle the virus and suggesting that it’s is a good reason to enforce more punitive measures aimed at criminalizing homelessness.
This angle of attack is unsurprising, as Fox News has spent months demonizing the homeless and using homelessness as a bludgeon to attack Democratic politicians, the cities they lead, and various Democratic policies.
The novel coronavirus COVID-19 is a respiratory disease that was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China, in December. Since then, it has swiftly spread across the world, resulting in over 3,200 deaths globally so far, over 93,000 cases, and a stock market plunge. As of Wednesday, almost 130 people in 16 states in the United States have been affected, as the race continues to test more people experiencing symptoms .
Some on Fox News -- particularly prime-time host Tucker Carlson, who has a history of grotesquely obsessing over homelessness in blue states -- are now using the issue of homelessness to attack Democrats’ response to the coronavirus, arguing that the homelessness crisis proves Democrats can’t handle the fallout from the disease and expressing disgust at the thought of homeless encampments existing during a pandemic.
ZUHDI JASSER (AMERICAN ISLAMIC FORUM FOR DEMOCRACY): I have to tell you, we have to understand first, what is the BDS movement? It's a anti-Semitic, basically genocidal movement that wants to see the end of Israel. So make no mistake, these are not moderates coming to visit Israel. Israel per its 2017 law has a right to prohibit activists, especially those who want to see it wiped off the map, from coming in.
...
JOHN LAYFIELD (LAYFIELD REPORT CEO): Zuhdi, listen, I'm not a fan of either of these two congresspeople, and I am a fan of Israel and our relationship with them. I think it's very strong, I think we need to keep that. We give them about $3.8 billion a year in support of their military. But I'm also not a fan of inflammatory rhetoric, and you said that Tlaib and Omar want Israel wiped off the face of the map. Do you really think -- are you really willing to say that on worldwide television that these two congresspeople want all of these Israeli people dead? That seems way across the line, sir.
JASSER: That's the support of her BDS. She just put forth a resolution in which they asked for support of the BDS movement, the boycott, divest, and sanctions movement calls for economic destruction of Israel so that no one can deal with it economically, and thus it dies of attrition. That is what they're calling for, and when they put on their agenda Palestine and they don't even mention Israel, those are two congresspeople activists who do not even believe in giving recognition to the state of Israel.
