Former VCTA Chair in District 1 Race
By now, it is clear to many in Ventura County District 1 that David Grau, former Chairman of the Ventura County Taxpayers Association, is going to make his bid to win a seat on the Board of Supervisors in 2016.
Dave’s opponent will be Steve Bennett. It is interesting that Steve will be running for his fifth term despite personally supporting the three term limit measure for Supervisors in 2008. 77% of the voters also supported the measure.
Dave thinks it’s time for a change and believes many agree with him.
VCTA has appreciated Dave’s contribution to the organization and the interests of taxpayers for several years.
Dave was a leader in promoting the recent pension reform initiative that would protect the pensions of existing and retired employees, create a sustainable retirement system, and save the county millions of dollars. The initiative earned a place on the ballot in 2014 but was stopped by the court as a result of a lawsuit by public employees unions.
Dave was the only voice that spoke out against granting an illegal “golden handshake” termination package to an employee of the Ventura County Transportation Commission. When confronted, members of the board had no other choice than to deny the planned benefit.
Dave spoke out against the recent change in water rates in the City of Ventura as a violation of Prop 218,. The water rate scheme is the same plan used by San Juan Capistrano that was found invalid by the courts, a decision ignored by the Ventura City Council.
Dave continues to serve as a Board Member and VCTA is rightfully proud to see one of its members seek an expanded role in the area public policy.
