sender gets caught staring at receiver and immediately looks away. // david @eidetic187
years ago, when david had been a younger man, he had been excited to finish his police academy training. to join the force and try and make things better for people. to celebrate his graduation, he had decided to go to vegas. sure, it wasn't an overly creative way to celebrate, but he had a few weeks before he was supposed to report for duty on his first day. so traveling to nevada had seemed like a fun idea.
of course, he hadn't expected to meet the most beautiful man while there. a gambler at one of the poker tables who had caught his eye. lithe and with soft looking lips and quick fingers. david had no thoughts in his head as he put down chips and joined the game, solely so he could sit next to this beautiful man and hopefully learn his name.
the night had taken them both back to david's hotel room, a one night stand where he'd fallen asleep while talking to this strange and wonderful boy. only to awaken alone, the realisation set in that he'd never gotten a surname or a phone number. he'd scoured the casino, hoping to run into him again, only to be left going home empty handed.
years later, he's worked his way through the ranks. now one of the most well decorated detectives on the force, working primarily cases involving children or the occasional homicide. a string of missing children with little leads meant that david's boss had decided to call in the fbi for help. and wonder of all wonders. there he was. the mysterious man from so long ago, older now and even more beautiful than the memory he'd carved out of himself in david's mind.
it was undeniable that they still had that spark. star crossed lovers for one night reunited for a case. david hadn't stopped thinking about spencer for years. the glances between them now were stolen. soft. and eventually blue eyes accidentally met hazel and david couldn't help but smile. the case, of course, was solved a few days later. many children were finally able to go home to their waiting parents.
david couldn't let spencer slip away again, so he walked up to him as the bau packed their things and readied to leave. "can we talk?" he gestures towards an empty office where there would be privacy. he wants closure for all those years ago. wants to apologize for whatever he did that must have driven spencer away. "please?"
