A made-for-TV adaptation of Arthur Miller's 1949 play, Death of a Salesman, was broadcast on 15 September 1985.
Directed by Volker Schlöndorff and starring Dustin Hoffman, John Malkovich, and Kate Reid, the TV movie was nominated for 10 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama/Comedy Special, Outstanding Supporting Actor (Charles Durning), Outstanding Director in a Miniseries or a Special (Schlöndorff), Outstanding Costume Design (Ruth Morley), Outstanding Editing (David Ray), Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition (Alex North), and Outstanding Sound Mixing.
Hoffman received the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor, Malkovich for Outstanding Supporting Actor, as well as an Emmy for Outstanding Art Direction.
