Classical Nerd is an educational series covering music history, theoretical concepts, and techniques, hosted by composer, pianist, and music history aficionado Thomas Little.
Join us for Love Songs on April 23, the second in a series of concerts celebrating the musical legacy of Prof. David Schiff, who is retiring after 38 years. Co-presented with Portland new-music ensemble fEARnoMUSIC, this performance will feature the Reed College Collegium Musicum, the college’s chamber choir.
The program will include "Peace" (1984) and "All About Love" (2004) and will feature mezzo-soprano Hai-Ting Chinn and tenor Thomas Glenn. “Peace” sets texts from Isaiah (in Hebrew and English) in sections forming an arc from calm to agitation and back. “All About Love” is a characteristically erudite work, in three stand-alone movements with interludes, based on texts by Petrarch, Louise Labé, Herman Melville, Marina Tsvetaeva, John Keats, Marcel Proust, and Elizabeth Bishop.
Free and open to the public.

Join us for the first in a three-concert celebration of David Schiff, R.P. Wollenberg Professor of Music, on Tuesday, March 12!
Program will include “Singing in the Dark” and “Road Maps” with Marty Ehrlich on alto saxophone and Myra Melford on piano. Also, there will be a pre-concert talk by Robert McBride.
The other two concerts are on April 23 and 25; all are free and open to the public.
