Bluegrass Beauty Featuring David Schuster
In the equestrian world, there is little that compares to Spring in Kentucky. As the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event and Keeneland Spring Meet conclude, the Kentucky Derby Festival fast approaches.
The Derby festivities kick off with Thunder Over Louisville (April 23) and lead into the Kentucky Oaks (May 6) and Kentucky Derby (May 7) at the famed Churchill Downs. The excitement builds as Louisvillians prepare for the eyes of the world to fix on the historic Run for the Roses-- otherwise known as "the greatest two minutes in sports."
If you plan to visit Louisville this Spring, leave room in your schedule for a visit to the Kentucky Fine Art Gallery. Through May 26, Scouted artist David Schuster's contemporary realist equine oil paintings will be on display, along with equine works by Jaime Corum, Lynn Dunbar, and Robert Halliday, as part of the Bluegrass Beauty art exhibition.
Schuster's work combines elements of abstraction, impressionism, and realism, and you may recognize his equine artwork from bottles of Woodford Reserve’s Kentucky Derby 2014 bourbon, which featured his painting "The 4th Turn."
Schuster paints traditional subject matter--flowers, horses, landscapes, people--but, he says, "I like for it to have a fresh take. The paintings may be at home in a traditional environment, but I don’t want them to look like they were painted eighty years ago."
Horses are an immersive experience in Kentucky and a unique piece of original art could be just the way to bring a bit of the Bluegrass home with you. The Bluegrass Beauty art show runs through May 26 and you can view more of the work of David O. Schuster here.
