Rep. David Schweikert echoed Rep. Andy Biggs, who said the wealthy are getting free Obamacare, which isn't true.
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — One day after Rep. Andy Biggs made a false claim about wealthy Americans getting free health care under Obamacare, fellow Arizona Republican Rep. David Schweikert repeated a nearly identical statement that contradicts official data.
On Thursday, Biggs visited the studio and claimed people making $600,000 a year are getting free health care thanks to Obamacare subsidies. The assertion prompted angry emails from viewers.
Friday morning, Schweikert appeared and made a strikingly similar claim, saying he knows someone getting subsidies despite a high income.
WATCH: GOP Rep. Schweikert urges Congress to avoid 'financial armageddon'
GOP Rep. David Schweikert of Arizona criticized Republican plans for the national debt and spending cuts on the House floor Friday, urging Congress to avoid a "financial armageddon."
In a passionate speech, Schweikert emphasized the difficulty of cutting federal spending and that current plans to go after certain programs that are oft discussed by members of his party aren't going to change the financial landscape as much as promised.
"If you get rid of the Department of Education salaries ... you just covered nine hours of borrowing," he said.
He also added that eliminating foreign aid would only cover a week of borrowing. "Am I starting to make a point on the scale of what we have to actually tell the truth and deal with," he asked.
This is against the landscape that President Donald Trump has centered federal spending in the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, led by Elon Musk.
“They hate that baby because it symbolizes a responsibility,” the Arizona Republican said in a newly unearthed 2022 interview.
Jennifer Bendery at HuffPost:
WASHINGTON — Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) said in a newly unearthed interview from 2022 that women who have abortions “hate the country” and “hate that baby” because they know if they carried their pregnancies to term, it would mean responsibility.
Schweikert, who is currently facing a tough reelection bid, made his comments in July 2022 on a conservative radio program, “The Seth Leibsohn Show.” During the interview, host Seth Leibsohn referenced a woman in a House oversight committee hearing who had recently testified that having an abortion was the best decision she’d made and “an act of self-love.”
“Think about what she just said,” Schweikert said. “You have a number of these [inaudible] that life means nothing, self means everything.”
Leibsohn agreed as Schweikert went on.
“It’s about self. It’s about self. It’s about self,” said the Arizona congressman. “And you wonder why they hate the country because they only care about themselves.”
He continued, “They hate their neighbors because they only care about themselves. They hate that baby because it symbolizes a responsibility.”
Schweikert, who adopted a baby son in 2022, brought up what it was like holding his infant. He suggested Democrats would have let his son die.

In another interview on Leibsohn’s show, in November 2022, Schweikert suggested that some people in “wealthy, white, well-educated” areas voted Democratic in the recent midterm elections because “President [Donald] Trump hurt their feelings.” He also claimed that women who don’t have children and aren’t married just vote for candidates based on what’s “trendy.”
During a July 2022 appearance on right-wing radio host Seth Leibsohn’s show on Phoenix talk station KKNT, Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) told Leibsohn that women who choose to get abortions “hate that baby” and “hate the country.”
