#17 what’s your biggest pet peeve when it comes to lgbtqa characterization in media?

ahhh!! thank u!! i have a lot of thoughts n they’re rlly jumbled bc my brain is kinda Racing so i’m going 2 attempt to make some sense. Plz bear w me.

ik it’s like...a Token Answer but i have Beef with lack of lgbt+ representation and stereotypes!! 

i feel like the most common characterization of the lgbt community is the White Gay Male. which is usually v stereotypical. this portrayal is why quite a few White CisHet Girls are v into having Gay Best Friends. but Only! if they’re cis white gay men.

then u have the lack of lesbian, bisexual, and trans representation. lesbians, when they’re included in a storyline seem like “shock factor” most of the time. if they’re not, they’re insanely sexualized n fetishized. again!! more stereotypes!! i feel like most lesbian characters are always made out to be mostly fat butch cis women or super skinny cis supermodel femmes. bisexual women are usually a “shock factor” or they’re ~experimenting~ and they end up ~“choosing”~ by the end of the movie/tv show. as for male and trans bisexuals? ur more likely to meet Bigfoot than see them in the media. trans characters are rare to come by and it’s even rarer to see a trans character portrayed well? they never use trans actors for trans characters.

 all these stereotypes r super harmful n dangerous and they Suck bc it would be super cool to see more diversity rather than the same repeated stereotypical tropes that they like 2 call “representation” 

tl;dr? most representation is white, cis, and stereotyped.
