The Murder of Suzanne Pilley
Suzanne Pilley was a 38-year-old Scottish woman who worked as a bookkeeper in Edinburgh, UK.
On 4th May 2010, Suzanne was making her way to work. She was seen on CCTV leaving a supermarket en route and then walking towards her office. This was the last sighting of her and she did not arrive at work that day. By the afternoon, Suzanne had been reported missing.
On 11th May police circulated CCTV footage of Suzanne's last known whereabouts adding that they believed she had been the victim of a crime and appealing for witnesses. A week later it was announced the investigation had changed from missing person to murder.
On 23rd June, David Gilroy, a colleague and previous boyfriend to Suzanne, was arrested in connection with her disappearance. He was quickly charged with murder.
It was revealed that Gilroy had killed Suzanne the day she went missing and then disposed of the body at an unknown location. Suzanne and Gilroy had had a 'turbulent' relationship and Suzanne had expressed worries Gilroy was hacking her email account, Gilroy texted Suzanne more than 50 times a day, this contact suddenly stopped on 3rd May. DNA was found in Gilroy's car boot and the boot had been extensively cleaned.
David Gilroy was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Suzanne Pilley. Suzanne's body has still not been found.
