“NEW SUN”
by David Rothman
“Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view and demand they respect yours... Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life... Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people... Show respect and grovel to none.” —Tecumseh
Among the most celebrated of Native American leaders, Shawnee warrior and chief, Tecumseh, was an eloquent speaker who promoted tribal unity but was willing to take risks and make significant sacrifices to halt American expansion into native lands. In 2016 University of Tampa fine arts alum David M. Rothman memorialized a few of the words of Tecumseh on this N. 4th St wall in St. Petersburg, Florida, and in the years since they’ve only taken on greater meaning. In addition to showing his work in Tampa and Miami, Rothman has served as an art instructor for at-risk youth at Prodigy Cultural Arts Program. @davidrothmanart/
