"STRONG WOMAN"

Taking the idea from a 1942 song, "Rosie the Riveter," Westinghouse created it's famous "We Can Do It!" poster later that same year, representing the women serving in industry in support of the war effort. Only decades after the war did the iconic image become popularly referred to as "Rosie the Riveter." In 2019 Marseille-born artist Tom Bragado Blanco, aka Braga last1, updated the strong image of Rosie for a new generation with this mural for female-led @PodShare DTLA on E 1st St, on the border between the Little Tokyo and Arts District neighborhoods of Los Angeles.  @braga_last_one/

WILDCRAFT CIDER WORKS

Born in Los Angeles, Steven Lopez studied fine art at the University of Oregon in Eugene, learning form at the hands of a sculptor and "refining his conceptual vocabulary" under the watchful eye of a design theorist. While living back in Los Angeles navigating between tattoo, art, illustration, and mural work, Lopez is still a regular contributor to the Eugene art scene and was an early participant in the @20x21EUG Mural Project. This colorful 2016 wall was painted for the @WildcraftCider Works on Lincoln Street.  @ikeepmoving/

“NEW SUN”

Among the most celebrated of Native American leaders, Shawnee warrior and chief, Tecumseh, was an eloquent speaker who promoted tribal unity but was willing to take risks and make significant sacrifices to halt American expansion into native lands. In 2016 University of Tampa fine arts alum David M. Rothman memorialized a few of the words of Tecumseh on this N. 4th St wall in St. Petersburg, Florida, and in the years since they’ve only taken on greater meaning. In addition to showing his work in Tampa and Miami, Rothman has served as an art instructor for at-risk youth at Prodigy Cultural Arts Program.  @davidrothmanart/

"ENTREPRENEURSHIP"

Best known as a comedian and actor, Cheech Marin is also the preeminent collector of Chicano art in the United States—and a big fan of Art Center-trained South LA artist Jaime Zacarias, aka Germs. Germs' "grotesque yet amusing" tentacle-wielding, Luchador mask-wearing creations engage the viewers imagination and provide a complex visual vehicle for hidden images and layered references. Half an hour north of where he grew up the majority Hispanic city of Pacoima is home to Mural Mile and a growing gallery of outdoor art. In 2015 the Pacoima Entrepreneur Center—a non-profit with a rich history of assisting underserved communities develop small businesses—asked Germs to create this amazing work on the back of their facility at Van Nuys Blvd and Telfair Ave.  @germ_s/

PENDULUM STUDIOS

In 2007 two African American architects shared a vision for a new kind of practice and together opened Pendulum Studios on Holmes St in Kansas City’s East Crossroads Arts District. “Long before it was cool to live, work, and play in the neighborhood” the partners were collaborating with the many creative enterprises that already called the district home. When the partners heard about the Jason Harrington, aka @RifRafGiraffe, plans to create a new street art festival, @SolaNoir, timed around the solar eclipse of 2017, they were happy to be a sponsor and “100% geeked out” at the opportunity to have one of the festival headliners paint their building. For his part Brazilian artist Senna whose work “often talks about solitude, love, friendship, passion, conformity and family” responded with this skyward-looking composition.  @alexsenna/  @pendulum_kc/
