Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Happy Thorsday - Eikinskjaldi, Of the Oaken Shield Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic) mythological characters. This week it’s Eikinskjaldi / Eikinskjoldr the Dwarven (Dverg / Dvergr / Dwarf). One of the Dwarves mentioned in the in the Voluspa.
Called ‘The One with the Oaken Shield’. It’s what his name translates to literally ‘Oaken’ and ‘Shield’ respectively.
Not much else is known about him.
I feel like his parents were limiting his options when they named him. Did he even like shields, or was it that he was just named that, given a shield, and told to like it. Did he want to be a dancer and his parent’s never understood? Who knows, maybe he changed it from something else himself because he just really liked Oak shields in general, or this one Oak shield in particular.
Starting this blog off right, with my amazing icon.
Doki found her new hiding spot: behind a huge white teddy bear. :)
