Fresh out of the shower, you’re changing into an oversized sweater and an underwear for the night when you hear Younghyun’s low voice calling out your name from the front door.
“Baby?”
“You’re back—,”
Your words are cut short when he approaches and engulfs you in his embrace from behind, his arms circling around your hips as he leans forward to place a kiss on your cheek—catching you off guard; but a smile of pure delight decorates your face regardless.
Younghyun nibbles your ear while he effortlessly brushes your hair aside to make his way onto your neck, sniffing the delicate scent of rose enveloping your skin.
“You smell so sweet,” he utters, and you emit soft whimpers from the ticklish feeling of his lips and tongue brushing against your sensitive skin; the relentless smooching sounds filling the room.
You’re pushed flat towards the door of the wardrobe suddenly as Younghyun continues latching onto your skin; his large build pressed against your back.
Sultry moans escape from you the second he grinds his bulge against your clothed cunt, while you instinctively bend yourself over to perfectly fit yourself on his crotch, a nod to his greedy action; the thick fabric of his jeans is nothing when you feel how hard he’s gotten.
A thought crosses your mind that he must be feeling bothered by something by the way his hands roam a little too roughly now all over your body—squeezing your breasts underneath your sweater and landing a few slaps to your ass, making you whimper.
Getting all worked up, Younghyun’s fingers travel down to your pussy; later scrambling to take off your panties while he tilts his head to reach your jaw for a lick—until he stops abruptly; his hot breath fanning close to your ear.
“Shit,” he lets out a sudden curse and clicks his tongue in frustration as he places his palm on his nape, rubbing it in an attempt to soothe the slight pain he’s feeling.
“Your neck still hurts? You slept wrong last night…,”
You can’t help voicing out your concern as you turn to properly face him, and that’s when you’re drooling in your head at his appearance post-concert, as dashing as when he’s on stage.
You feel bad for him for the mishap, but you’re secretly turned on by his irritated expression—his bold eyebrows in a sexy frown, the sharp look in his eyes you believe could kill, and the cocky way he clenches his jaw.
And when he cursed earlier, you swear your pussy throbbed; leaving you on edge when he paused his touch out of the blue.
“That’s not important right now,” he flashes you a smirk, subtle but visibly mischievous.
“Turn around, baby,” he orders, and at his simple but firm command, you do as he says; catching a glimpse at his intimidating look as you bite your lip, bracing yourself for his next move.
Picking up where he left off, Younghyun yanks your panties down, then spits onto his fingers and brings them to your pussy, smearing the liquid all over it.
He begins to penetrate your hole with his index finger, stretching it open slowly and earning himself a moan from you, somewhat shy and suppressed still—at the same time you bring your hand to your back to grab his forearm when you feel another finger enters; holding your breath as you take in the heavenly sensation.
“Tight fucking pussy… just a little more and you’ll have my cock, yeah?”
“Mm-hmm…,” you whimper as a response while he pushes further; he’s enjoying how your body reacts as you take him and the satisfying grip of your cunt around his fingers, while he works his way in and out to ensure that you’re ready enough.
“Stay still, princess,” Younghyun instructs then, another hand skilfully undoing his belt and jeans in a haste.
While you can’t see his impatient actions, you feel your skin burning at his stern words; the pounding of your heart is audible upon hearing his raspy voice pronouncing the pet name he loves calling you by.
Younghyun strokes his length in fast motions, then drags it along your slit, aiming for your inviting hole he stretched open before.
“Fuck…,” he grunts as soon as he slips into your wetness, nestling his cock deep in your pussy, carefully—nevertheless causes you to jerk forward, as if you’re learning to have him for the first time ever; always needing some extra seconds for adjustment.
“Oh my god, daddy… feels so good…,” your eyes are made shut at the blissful feeling of his entire dick filling you up, while your grasp on his arm tightens.
Younghyun starts moving, his arm draping around your body to rest his grip on your neck while the other hand spreads your ass cheek; the position enabling him to ram into you however he likes.
His pace gradually increases by the minute, and it’s only natural that you blurt out uncontrollable whines he’s addicted to hear.
“You’re taking me so well, baby… you’re one good fucking girl.”
He showers you with praises, every now and then settling smooches on your exposed shoulder the moment your loose sweater slips off slightly; the fucking getting intense against the closet door.
You struggle to withstand your own body with the amount of energy he puts in his thrusts—sharp and angry—it’s almost like he’s hate-fucking.
It doesn’t help that you have zero control over yourself—legs trembling, your little hand now barely holding onto his arm, and you’re already actually drooling; simply dumbfounded to feel anything else except the delicious push and pull of his hard cock inside your walls.
“Ngh— daddy, please…,” your whines are getting louder when Younghyun finds your awaiting sweet spot, hitting it hard with perfect precision, more begging and cries out of pleasure roll off your tongue; your skin on fire and your head in a daze.
He grunts at the way you simultaneously writhe beneath him and struggle to push back against his lap in desperation for more friction; aware that you’re very close to your climax.
“Fucking hell, cum for me, baby,” he encourages you, and that’s when you feel as if your soul is leaving your body; the delirious feeling of cumming with his length still drilling into you.
He grabs your waist and leans back for a quick moment to watch your soaking pussy; the erotic sight fuelling him near to his release as well.
“Fuck… I’m fucking close,” Younghyun whispers then, and with several more shoves into your womanhood, he ejaculates; groaning as his thick load floods your walls.
He slows down his movement, keeping his cock inside you as he watches it twitch, finishing himself into you until the very last drop.
Pulling out of you eventually, a little stream of his cum mixed with yours drips down the inner of your thighs, and his lips curl up into a satisfied grin at the sight of it.
“Shit, baby… look at you.” Younghyun taps your ass and tucks his dick back inside his briefs, taking pride in the beautiful mess of you he just created.
With weakened legs, you turn to face him with the hold of his hands under your arms, not caring about the stickiness between your thighs, displaying yourself to him with a view he’s a sucker for—a face flushed and fucked out; breathing heavy, eyes misty.
“I’m sorry, baby… did I hurt you?” He cups your face in his hands, gently brushing away the dishevelled strands of hair that stick to your forehead.
“No, I felt really good…,” you reply shyly, still in the middle of catching your breath, “I’m more worried about your neck, though.” You finish your sentence, chuckling at the end of it.
“Yeah, this damn neck,” he scoffs, once again stretching his head to ease the inconvenience. “I felt better, but I got a little pissed I couldn’t enjoy as much at the show today… but more than that, I needed you.”
He plants a tender kiss on your lips, then moving on to your rosy cheek, later caressing it lovingly—making you blush even more.
“I was gonna say that you should get some rest earlier, but I like this…,” you say bashfully, biting your lip.
“Hm?” He raises his brows, expecting you’re about to say something he knows he would be very pleased to hear.
“I like it when you use me all you want, daddy,” you respond shamelessly now in a soft whisper; the seductiveness of your voice and your flirtatious expression combined just makes Younghyun want to pounce on you right away.
Deep down he’s put at ease by your statement, and it’s the way your face gives off that aftersex glow that convinces him—he’s concerned if earlier he might’ve crossed the line.
“Yeah? I got a stiff neck and you’re having fun, hm?” He holds your chin in a firm grip, swiping his thumb over your reddened lips. “Get on the bed, then.”
“But what about your neck…?” You ask while you take his hand and sway it playfully, just testing to see what he’s going to say—though you know he already has his mind set on getting what he wants.
“If I have to break my neck fucking you then I would, sweet girl.” He pats your cheek in adoration, and can’t help snickering at his own silly remark afterwards.
“Come on baby, to the bed.” He leaves a light spank on your ass, prompting you to act quick.
You giggle at his words, as you walk the short distance towards the bedroom while Younghyun follows, a devilish smile on his face watching you climb giddily onto the bed; knowing you’re anticipating the same thing.
He’s about to have the best relief of the night, once again—and you’re the only one to give him it.

Twelve minutes.
He’s tugging on his socks, so obviously mismatched, just barely making it out the door without tripping on his own two feet.
He fumbles and feels around his pockets for the keys, breathing a sigh of relief when he feels the familiar imprint against his jeans.
But the relief is short-lived. His eyes widen in panic when his gaze lands upon the sweet old lady making her way towards the elevator from her end of the corridor, walking stick in hand. Cursing to himself, he readjusts his guitar strap on his shoulder, making a beeline towards the elevator.
“C’mon, c’mon, c’mon…” He mutters under his breath, fingers jabbing the down button at frantic speed.
Behind him, a door clicks shut. You step out, double-checking that your front door is locked properly.
You turn around, only to be faced with the broad back of your tall neighbour from the end of the corridor. You’ve crossed paths a few times before, but only briefly. From what you could gather, he orders a shit ton of takeout (as evident from the piles of recycled takeaway containers he leaves intermittently by his door), and is always up at irregular hours. You vaguely remember brushing past him by the elevator way past midnight a few weeks ago when you came home from a company dinner that ran way over. You were tired, shoulders slumped, looking forward to a warm shower and a good night’s sleep; whereas he was dressed in all black, hood pulled up over his head, backpack slung over his shoulder. He looked like he was going somewhere – at 2am.
You shake those thoughts away. It’s just past seven, and you’re running slightly late for your dinner with an old friend. The bus leaves in five minutes, so you really have to get to the bus stop soon. You briefly consider running down the stairs, but decide against it given you’re on the ninth floor.
You stand carefully behind your neighbour. He’s bouncing on his feet, fingers tapping against his thighs impatiently. Perhaps you’re not the only one in a rush.
The elevator dings, signalling its arrival.
Jae swears the door slides open at a snail’s pace. He’d already been late for the last few gigs – he couldn’t afford to not be on time today, unless he wanted his head on the chopping block. He quickly jogs in, pressing for the ground floor, but he’s so absorbed in getting in before the ahjumma arrives that he fails to notice your presence.
Your eyes meet in a split second, and he flashes you an apologetic look, before pressing the doors shut.
That bastard!
“I’m sorry!” His voice filters through the rapidly closing doors as you stand there in shock, refusing to believe that your neighbour just slammed the elevator door shut in your face.
Needless to say, you were late to your dinner.
For the next few days, whenever your line of sight falls upon that particular neighbour’s door, you feel your blood boiling underneath your skin.
───────────
You settle into the elevator, pressing your AirPods into your ears, ready to start the morning commute and face the day. It’s a Monday, the start of a new week, and you already miss the soft crinkle of your sheets under your skin.
Just as the doors slide close, a hand sticks in between the doors, prompting it to re-open.
Your eyebrow lifts at the new intruder.
And in walks none other than your menace of a neighbour.
He’s sporting large wire-rimmed, round glasses this time. A shoulder bag hangs upon his lithe frame, and headphones sit snug around his neck. A small ponytail sits atop his head.
You squint your eyes at it, staring.
He sucks in a breath, caught off guard by your presence. He nods his head, almost sheepishly, averting his gaze towards his old Converse, worn from years of sticky bar floors and spilt coffee.
The elevator doors slide close, trapping the two of you inside the metal cell.
You know it’s rude to stare, but the contrast between the tiny ponytail and the rest of him (or what you know of him, at least) is too stark to ignore.
He seems to feel the weight of your gaze, following your line of sight before patting his head down with his hand, wincing internally at the realisation that he forgot to fix his hair after brushing his teeth and washing his face.
The air is tense and silent for the rest of the ride. You have nothing to say to him. He seems to be mulling over the right words.
The doors slide open, just as his lips part.
“I’m sorry again.” He calls out, voice small as he realises the chances of you hearing him are slim. You’d already stepped forward, feet crossing the threshold of the elevator. He continues anyway. “I know it was a pretty rude thing to do, but I couldn’t afford to be late again. I… I’m sorry.”
You stop in your tracks. You don’t say anything, or turn around. You simply nod lightly, before continuing with the rest of your day.
Jae lets out a breath he didn’t even realise he was holding.
Let me make it up to you, he wants to say, but the words die in his mouth.
───────────
It’s early – way too early, and Jae tries but fails miserably to rub the sleep from his eyes. He yawns, wondering to himself how anyone could possibly function at the crack of dawn.
(Or at least, it feels like the crack of dawn for him, a seasoned night owl. It is, in fact, quarter past seven, which is a perfectly normal time for human beings to start their days.)
He glances at the clock.
Eight minutes, Jae reckons. Eight minutes before the morning rush starts and he’d have to interact with other people like a normal, functioning member of society.
A sense of dread settles over him.
For now, he absentmindedly wipes over the surface of the coffee machine, the paddle, the coffee grinder – his metal companions for the morning shift. To his left, just at the corner of his eyes, sits his notebook, open to his recent work.
It’s an uptempo, pop beat coupled with a melody that sits easily on the ears. He has the instrumentals locked in, but the lyrics are a different story. It’s taking him longer than usual to come up with a cohesive narrative, and by this point, he’s tired of constantly hitting dead ends.
The windchime sings, signalling the arrival of customers. The early summer air blows through the open doors, the fresh scent of newly sprouting trees mingling with the lingering aroma of coffee beans in the air.
“Welcome to – Oh?”
Jae stops, tongue tied. An uneasy smile works its way onto his lips. He tries to conceal his surprise with his best customer service face. “Good morning, what can I get for you?”
Your eyes meet his in recognition. A look passes through your face for a mere second, before you recover your composure. You flash him a polite, tight-lipped smile. “Morning, can I get an iced latte please?”
He pulls a plastic cup from the organised pile, scribbling onto its side with a black marker. “Iced latte, coming right up.” He smiles , keying in your order and readying the card machine.
You linger by the counter. The cafe is empty, as it usually is. You’d tried to come in earlier to beat the morning rush and get your caffeine hit before stepping onto the train.
It’s funny, you think to yourself. You’ve lived in this apartment for months now, and frequented this cafe a few times a week, but you’ve never once crossed paths with your barista neighbour. Perhaps the timing never lined up properly, until now.
“Iced latte!” The voice you’ve only heard from the echoes along your hallway or within the confines of the metal elevator rings throughout the empty space.
The owner of said voice, whose eyes were partially concealed by his too-long fringe and a cap, shines slightly as he passes you your drink. You find it hard not to notice the dark eyebags sitting below his brown orbs.
“Thank you.” You mumble , voice small. You feel uncertain, as though you should say something more, but decide against it. After all, he did close the elevator door on you.
“Wait!” Jae calls out, stopping you from leaving. He disappears behind the counter for a second, and re-emerges with a brown bag. He passes it to you.
“What…?”
“It’s on the house, I hope you like chocolate chip cookies.” He explains sheepishly. “An apology for what I did last time. I truly am sorry.” He says , voice and eyes both laced with sincerity.
“I… Thank you. It’s fine.” You reply, accepting the cookie, but unsure of what to make of the interaction. The words linger in the air for a moment too long.
“Jae.” He blurts out, a desperate attempt to fill the silence. Inwardly, he cringes at himself. “My name is Jae. You’re 918, right?”
A small grin spreads across your lips. You nod, “Yeah, I’m Y/N.”
“Well, I won’t keep you. See you around, Y/N.”
───────────
It’s funny, because you swear you’ve never seen Jae at the cafe before, until that day.
And then, all of a sudden, he starts popping up everywhere.
The elevator, the cafe, the recycling bins downstairs, at the convenience store across the road, by the bus stop.
You searched it up late last night. It’s called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon; the frequency illusion – the phenomenon of suddenly noticing something, or rather, someone, and then seeing it appear everywhere around you.
Six minutes.
There’s not much time until your bus comes, and if you miss this one, you’d have to squish and be squished in the next one. You briefly consider skipping coffee this morning, but a yawn tears through your soul, reminding you of just how late you stayed up last night.
This won’t do.
You push past the cafe’s double doors, feeling the scent of freshly brewed coffee enveloping your fatigued body.
That, and a now familiar voice.
“Morning!” He’s rather chirpy today, you think to yourself as you approach the counter. “The usual?”
You nod, stifling a yawn. Wordlessly, you go through the motions of a cafe regular, pulling out your phone to pay and passing Jae your loyalty card.
“Long night?” He asks from beyond the steam and screams of the coffee machine.
You shake your head. “No, just bad sleep.”
He laughed, eyes glinting teasingly. “Have you ever considered that perhaps your caffeine addiction is messing with the quality of your sleep?”
You narrow your eyes at him. “Don’t take my one single joy away from me.”
Jae pulls his hands up in surrender. “I’m just saying, I know I work in a cafe and all and we profit immensely from this addiction of yours, but cutting down wouldn’t hurt.”
You pout, arms reaching out for your savior; your beloved iced latte. “I’ll consider it.”
He reaches across the counter with your coffee, but not before pretending to pull it back. Your hands follow the direction of the plastic cup a little too closely, fingers brushing his with a feather light touch.
“Wow, you really do have a problem.”
“Shut up.” You scold. “I’m leaving!”
“Oh, one sec.” He hands you another brown bag, this one much larger than before. “I messed up an order – there’s two slices of cheese instead of one. I’d usually just play dumb, but you know how particular the neighbour ahjumma is with her ham and cheese croissants.”
You laugh, because you in fact have no clue about this whatsoever. You just take his word for it. “Given how much free food you’re dishing out to customers, you’re probably running a loss at this rate.”
“Not just any customer, just you.” Jae teases, a playful lilt in his voice.
You wave at him, looking at your app for the next bus.
───────────
It’s the weekend, and the weather outside is smiling at you, beckoning you to leave the confines of your house.
You comply, pulling on a simple t-shirt and shorts, and tying your hair back in an attempt to look somewhat neat. You step into your slides, grab your keys and let your feet guide you towards your recent obsession. Everyday, you found yourself in one of three places – your home, your office, or the cafe downstairs.
“Welcome to – Oh?” A curious laugh punctuates the unfinished sentence. “It’s the weekend!”
“I know.” You reply breezily, leaning across the counter. “I’m addicted, remember?”
Jae laughs, and you’re suddenly struck by how familiar it sounds in your ears, like a memory you keep reliving, over and over again. “You really are. The usual?”
You hum in agreement. “Yes, and…” You trail off, eyes travelling across the pastries on display in the fridge. It’s the weekend, after all. You make up your mind in an instant. “And a chocolate chip cookie, please.”
“Coming right up.” He nods, firing the coffee machine up.
You linger by the counter, your usual spot, not really bothering to find a seat. You prefer to be in his company anyways.
“Any plans for today?” He asks casually, just as he shovels ice and pours milk into a plastic cup.
You shake your head, pulling your phone out to pick up where you left off from last night. “Not much – laundry, chores, groceries.”
“What are you up to?” Jae wonders, setting your iced latte down on the counter top. He attempts to peek past the coffee machine, but to no avail.
You hum absentmindedly. “Hmm, sudoku. I’m not really good at it though.”
“Pass it over.”
You lift your eyebrow, doubtful. “Really?”
“You’d be surprised.”
Considering you have nothing to lose, you hand your phone over, in exchange for the iced latte. You take a big sip, allowing the caffeine to flow through your veins. You shut your eyes and sigh appreciatively.
“Addict.” Jae scoffs, watching you with a teasing glint in his eyes, before turning his attention to your puzzle.
He remains silent for a moment, studying the screen. “You’re nearly there.” He begins. “But I think you need to take a few more risks.”
“What do you mean?” You lean forward, trying to get a glimpse of what he’s seeing that you clearly aren’t.
You get all up in his personal space, staring at your phone without paying any attention to the way Jae’s breath hitches in his throat. The scent of your freshly washed hair invades his senses, and for a second, he’s not sure whether he wants to take a deep inhale or hide away in the storeroom out back.
“Jae, what do you mean? I don’t get it.” You stare, willing the right numbers to appear in the right boxes.
He clears his throat. Focus. “I mean, you can just take guesses to eliminate your choices. Like, see here?” He points to a pair of boxes in the corner of the board. “The eight could go here, or there right? So you can just take a guess. And if it’s wrong, you’ll know immediately where it’s meant to go.”
You mull over his words, “I guess you’re right… How are you so good at this?” You wonder aloud, looking up to stare into his eyes. You feel your heart stutter in your chest at the closeness. You swear you could count his eyelashes if you focused.
“Uhm,” He gulps. He tries to compose himself, fingers reaching for the brown paper bag, long forgotten. “Your cookie.”
“Thanks.” You mumble, quickly accepting it and taking a bite. You wait patiently for his response.
“Yeah, my sister used to play heaps. We passed a sudoku book back and forth on the back pews of Sunday church when we were kids.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at the mental image your mind conjures up at his description. “Really?”
He bites his lip, a shy smile gracing his features. “Yeah, pretty lame, huh?”
You shake your head. “No, just a bit nerdy.”
“Sounds about right.”
───────────
The days pass in a whirlwind.
Your newfound routine gives you comfort. You find yourself looking forward to waking up to a new day, and another cup of coffee from your neighbour-turned-barista.
(You didn’t know it then, but neither did he. And the lingering conversations and warm exchanges prompted him to request more morning shifts, and to be home earlier, and to get to bed at reasonable times – just so he could be the best version of himself when he greets you in the morning.)
Early summer rolls into the rainy season, and the rain fades away to autumn. As the weather grows colder, you pull on more layers to keep warm. And yet, ironically, it feels like you are slowly, but surely, peeling back the layers of yourself.
(For him, of course.)
It’s a chilly morning, and you still haven’t let up on the iced lattes. You walk into the cafe, appreciating the warmth of the heaters in the cozy space.
“You’re a bit late today.” He remarks, pushing the iced latte across the counter, ready for your arrival.
You laugh, waving to greet him. The two of you dance a familiar tango – you pay, and he stamps your loyalty card. “Thanks for being prepared. I took the day off today.”
“Oh, how come?” He asks, fingers fiddling with his pen. His notebook lay open, long forgotten.
“Gotta go to the hospital.” You reply, pouting as you sip your morning coffee.
His eyes shoot up in alarm. “Hospital? Everything okay? You feeling alright?”
“Woah, woah.” You scoff, finding his worried expression endearing. “Aren’t you a little too invested in my health, as my barista?”
He averts his gaze, hands gesturing vaguely in the air. “You know, this cafe would crumble without your patronage.”
You laugh at that. “Yeah, well, you can’t get rid of me that easily. Just a routine checkup, nothing too serious, I hope.”
Jae breathes a sigh of relief. “Well, that’s good to hear. As your barista, I hope you will remain healthy so I can keep enabling your caffeine addiction.” He disappears briefly from behind the counter, and emerges with another brown bag. “A sweet treat, for good luck.”
He sets it down on the counter, next to his notebook. You reach towards it, but your eyes linger on the page. Chicken scrawls fill the lines. “What is it?” You ask, curious.
Jae sighs deeply. “A song I’ve been working on for ages, but it just refuses to come out right.”
“You write songs?”
He looks at you, eyes vulnerable. “Uhm, yeah. I sing too, and play the guitar. And the keyboard, if it’s required.”
“Oh!” The pieces of the puzzle fall into place. “That’s why you carry around a guitar!”
“No,” He begins, voice uncertain. “That’s because I play in a band.”
“You play in a band? What?!”
“Why are you so surprised?” He laughs nervously, unsure of what to make of your constant line of questioning.
“Nothing, it’s just… You’re… Don’t take this the wrong way, but you don’t necessarily fit the image of a band member.”
Jae clasps his hand across his chest in faked agony. “What does that mean?!”
“I mean, no offence, but you said you used to play sudoku with your sister in church. You’re telling me that boy grew up to play in a band?”
His lips formed a pitiful frown. “Hey, now you’re hurting my feelings. And yes, maybe you don’t really know me that well – have you considered that?”
You open your mouth, but fail to come up with a smart response. “I’m sorry,” You say sincerely. “I guess we don’t really know each other that well for two people who spend most mornings together.”
“Now you’re just making it sound romantic, Y/N.”
Your eyes meet his, holding his gaze for a few moments. The air is strung high with an unspeakable tension.
You take another sip in an effort to dissipate the awkward air, before staring at his notebook. “Can I take a look?”
Jae nods, a sense of deja vu washing over him. “Are you gonna help me with my lyrics cos I helped you with your sudoku?”
“Perhaps.” You mumble, reading his words. It was messy, barely legible, with a slight slant – somehow, it was so him. “Don’t underestimate me, you’re looking at the eighth grade spelling bee champion.”
He steps away to clean the dishes, leaving you to your devices.
When he comes back, you’re already scribbling across the page.
“How much do the words have to rhyme?” You ask, curious.
He hums. “Not exactly, but they do have to flow naturally together. I don’t really know – it’s hard to explain, I just go with what feels right. But for some reason, I’m really struggling with this one.”
You nod, considering your options. “I’ll see what I can do.”
───────────
All day, at the office, you run your fingers across a single piece of paper.
A five-inch piece of parchment with the name of a band you never heard of, until this morning. A date, a time, and a venue not too far away from your office.
You’ve been thinking about it all day – what his voice would sound like, what you should wear, how the audience would react. Your colleagues had to tap you repeatedly on your shoulder to ensure you were paying attention during the weekly stand-up.
And yet, nothing could calm the persistent hammer of your heart against your ribcage.
You met him first, as the annoying neighbour that slammed the elevator doors in your face.
You got to know him, slowly, as the barista who made your iced coffee every morning with a warm smile.
Tonight, you’ll see a whole other side of him. The performer; the artist underneath the overgrown fringe and wide-rimmed glasses and black hoodies. A different Jae.
It strikes you, then. The layers of him are slowly getting revealed to you, one by one, each more interesting than the last, and you want nothing more than to keep peeling back the layers of him.
Three more minutes…
You think to yourself, willing the hands of the clock to move faster so you could get ready to leave.
───────────
“Two minutes til showtime!” The stagehand calls in a booming voice.
On your trip back from the bathroom, you catch him standing in the corner, alone, leaning against a wall.
His fingers twirl the guitar pick over and over, a nervous tick.
You debate between leaving and staying. As your thoughts circle in your head, you watch him pull out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket.
This wouldn’t do.
You walk up to him and wave.
He sees you crossing the room and flashes you an uncertain smile.
“What are you doing here?” He asks softly, voice small. “You’re not gonna get front row seats at this rate.”
“I’m here on very important business.” You tease, a grin working its way onto your lips. Your gaze flickers towards the pack, and for a second you contemplate whether what you are about to do will cross an unspoken boundary, but you think, to hell with it.
“I’m not –” He begins.
You wordlessly reach out towards his hand, holding his trembling ones in yours. “No,” you spoke softly, with a quiet determination. “You won’t. You don’t need it to do well out there, trust me.”
Jae looks at you for a second, in awe. He looks away when the tightness in his chest gets too much. “How do you know?” He whispers, voice so small that your heart stutters in your chest.
“Because,” You take a deep breath, knowing that your words have the potential to make or break his confidence. “You’ve done this before, and you’ll do it again. Because you’ve conquered your nerves in the past and gave the audience a great show. Because you’ve performed and rehearsed these songs so many times. Because I helped you with the lyrics for one of them.” You pause, tightening your grip on his hands, and staring deep into his eyes. The lighting around you is scarce, and you can just make out your own reflection in his large glasses. But beyond that, his eyes are fixated solely on you, unwavering. “And because I believe in you.”
“Y/N,” Jae lets out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding. It feels like a huge burden has been lifted off his shoulders. “I –”
“It’s showtime!”
A worried look passes across his eyes. You hold his shoulders, giving them a reassuring squeeze. “Go, I’ll be watching from the front row.”
“Promise?” He asks, uncertain.
You nod vigorously, knowing right then and there that you would promise him the world if you could.
───────────
The performance passes in a blur.
One moment you’re jamming to the addictive beats, the next you’re being swept off your feet by Jae’s sweet, sweet vocals. You welcomed it all – moving your body to the music and allowing yourself to be serenaded by the band’s frontman.
All that dancing and cheering makes you parched, and you want to prolong the buzz and adrenaline with a glass of something chilled and strong.
“Hey, can I –”
“Gin and tonic for her, please. And a pint of beer for myself.” A voice, low and familiar, spoke next to you.
You turn towards it, and settle your eyes on the owner. He leans on the bar counter, all 6 feet of him, messy hair with sweat threatening to drip down his chin, staining his graphic tee and ripped jeans. He flashes you a teasing smirk.
“Jae,” You breathe, unsure of what to say or do after being completely moved by his performance and stage presence. You had no idea that your klutz of a neighbour could get the crowd going like that, like they were hypnotised by a magician. This is an entirely different side of him that you’ve never seen before, and you’re not entirely sure how to interact with it.
“Y/N,” Jae hands you your drink, and clinks your glass in a toast. “Did you enjoy yourself?”
“Yes.” You answer without hesitation. Taking a sip of your drink, you feel the cool liquid rush down your throat, doing little to calm your quickening pulse.
“I could tell.” He laughs as he takes a swig of his beer. Jae considers you for a second, eyeing you with a certain intensity that makes you warm both inside and out. “You were having a bit too much fun. It was a bit distracting, honestly.” He continues in a playful tone.
You look at him questioningly.
Instead of answering, he just moves closer to you. The bar is getting more crowded by the minute as people try to refill their drinks after the performance. Your breath hitches in your throat as you feel the heat from his warm body radiate towards you. Bar goers begin yelling out their orders, and along with the music blasting from the speakers, it becomes harder and harder to hear each other.
Jae places a steady arm around your shoulders, shielding you from the wave of people moving towards the counter. He leans close to your ears, his breath causing goosebumps to rise on your skin. “How about we get some food? It’s way too hectic here.”
You’re not sure what comes over you, then. Maybe it’s the close proximity with Jae that messes with your brainwaves, or the reassuring squeeze of your shoulders, or perhaps just the comfort of leaning against his sturdy form in a room full of strangers. You reach within yourself and find the courage to utter the next few words, “Are you taking me out on a date?”
“Am I what?”
“I’m not repeating myself!” You laugh, ushering him towards the general direction of the exit.
He trails closely behind you, pretending that he didn’t hear you. “Say it again! I can’t hear –”
You shoot a pointed look towards him once the two of you make it outside. The constant pushing and shoving ensures you’re pressing flush against him, his arm never straying far from you.
The night air is chilly, and you feel a shiver work its way through your bones. Wordlessly, he pulls out a hoodie from his backpack that you didn’t even realise he had with him. Jae helps you pull it over your head, and work your arms through the sleeves. You’re momentarily winded by how his scent swallows you whole. When you emerge from the oversized hoodie, completely engulfed by the fabric, he helps to sweep your hair away from your eyes.
He smiles at you like you’re the best thing that ever happened to him. His gaze is soft and sparkly, his gentle touch lingering on you. You wish it stays there forever.
“Jae…”
“C’mon, let’s get out of here.”
───────────
And that’s how you ended up back where it all started – within the four walls of the elevator.
Lingering touches, harmonious giggles, and smiles that hide more than you’re both willing to put into words.
The two of you stumble in unceremoniously, drunk off of something richer and more potent than alcohol.
If you were asked to recall what your conversation was about, you probably wouldn’t be able to give an accurate recount. Your ears could only register the bright notes of his laughter, high and loose, yet familiar all the same. Something about the set, perhaps, or his nerves, but you really couldn’t pay attention to much else other than his warm body against yours.
It feels like you were wrapped up in a warm bubble, away from the rest of the world. As the elevator ascends to the ninth floor in what feels like the longest ride ever, you find yourself welcoming the touch of his arms as they snake around your hips, pulling you real close.
Jae presses his lips against your hair, deeply inhaling the whiffs of shampoo that he only ever caught briefly on your morning coffee runs. It makes him lightheaded, but in the best way. “Hmm,” He hums, and you feel rather than hear him mumble against your skin. “You know, I love being around you.”
You giggle against his chest, fingers absentmindedly playing with the belt loops of his jeans. “Really?”
“Yeah, I was never much of a morning person, but somehow you changed me.” Jae pulls away slightly, and you have to actively fight the whine that works up your throat at the lack of close contact. “I love how I am around you.”
“Me too.” You admit, looking deep into his eyes, unconsciously nodding and moving closer to him. Now that you got a taste of him, you couldn’t bear being apart.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
A few moments of silence follows, as the two of you sway in each other’s arms. Jae’s eyes break away from yours and travel slightly down, down, and down, towards your lips. As if on cue, you bite on your lips, heartbeat thundering against your ribcage.
“Don’t,” He groans, pained. “Don’t do that, you’re so distracting…”
You laugh a little, but refuse.
Jae reaches to cup your face in his hand, his thumb working to pull your lips away. “Can I…” He breathes, leaning in on instinct.
Ten seconds, you think, until you can finally indulge in your curiosities (recently, your waking thoughts are preoccupied by how it feels to have his lips touch yours).
“Can I… you know?”
You couldn’t help laughing at his nervous demeanour. “What? I don’t know.”
“Y/N, please…” Jae whines, his thumb caressing the side of your cheek with a feather light touch, conveying his pleas. He hopes you get the message and stop torturing him already, for goodness sake. For what it’s worth, he’s waited long enough.
You shrug your shoulders, settling deeper into his hold, enjoying the skin-to-skin contact with someone who was always in your orbit but felt just beyond your reach.
Jae licks his own lips nervously. “I… Kiss… Can I –”
You don’t let him finish his sentence.
You grab him by the collar and pull him towards you. The moment your lips touch, the haziness in your mind clears. Nothing matters in that moment other than the feeling of him against you, pressed so impossibly close. It’s like you woke up from a deep slumber, refreshed, or the first satisfying breath after being trapped in an enclosed place. Time slows as your lips move languidly against his, your hands exploring on its own accord, first trailing down his shirt, then up to hook behind his neck, clutching his hair in earnest. At the same time, he walks you backwards and presses you against the metal wall. His palm, big and warm, cradles your face in his grasp, as though you’re his most prized possession. You let him, melting in his touch.
The seconds pass in this way, the two of you too lost in each other to care about anything else around you. And you want to keep going too, if not for the inconvenience that is breathing.
You pull away reluctantly, filling your lungs with fresh air, taking a moment to recover because – what was that? You feel like your brain is turning into mush.
Jae can’t seem to get enough. He holds you close against him, his arms tightening around your middle, taking a big inhale as he buries his face in your neck.
“You have no idea…” He begins, breathless. “No idea how long I’ve waited to do that…”
You just giggle softly in response, not trusting your lips to form words yet. You just snuggle closer to him.
“Do you wanna come back to mine? I’ll order food.”
You nod shyly.
“Also, what’s taking this lift so long…” He tears away from you briefly to stare at the buttons, only to realise that neither of you even pressed them in the first place.
Laughter spills from your lips at the mishap, clearly both of you were too caught up in each other to notice.
And so the rest of the night ends with lots of fried chicken, cheesy rom-coms and cuddling on his couch.
(Of course, he lets you steal the duvet at night, preferring to spoon you instead in search of warmth.)
(He lets you steal his hoodie too, and a t-shirt or two. Or a few.)

This masterlist is not final, and will be updated soonest. I'm just triggered by how disorderly my dash is and it's been itching my brain for so long lmao
Also, I know I write crossover fics, but the ones the ones under the artists listed are where they are the main focus
Since their father’s death, Dahee and Dowoon becomes closer than before as they have resolve all their conflict.
The only problem that Dahee need to solve is, Younghyun.
The last time she met with him was during their last project presentation, the time she pushed him away from her.
Dahee tried contacted him in every types, let it be through phone calls, messages, emails, Dahee even goes to his own apartment but Younghyun still didn’t want to meet her.
She becomes more frantic looking for Younghyun when Dowoon told her that Younghyun will go back to Canada for some time. Dahee can’t let him go, well at least before she apologize to him after what she had done to him.
So when the group knew when Younghyun gonna depart to Canada, they immediately told Dahee even though they knew he want to keep it secret from her—they can’t let the lovers separate with unsolved conflicts between them.
“Are you sure he gonna depart today?” Dahee nervously asked his brother who was driving the car to the airport.
“I’m 110% sure! Younghyun hyung told Sungjin hyung the other day he gonna depart today.” Dowoon replied as he glance over his sister at the side who can’t sit still at the seat.
“Then speed up. I don’t want miss seeing him, at least before he departs.” Dahee urges, tears threaten to spill thinking about not seeing Younghyun after he goes back to Canada.
As soon as Dowoon parked the car at the side, Dahee immediately get off the car and start running into the airport, looking the man she longed for.
Her heart wrenched in pain as she runs with all her might but no sight of Younghyun were seen. The airport filled with crowds which makes her even harder to look for him.
“Younghyun where on earth are you? I’m so sorry” Dahee sobs, lowering her head as heavy tears falls on her rosy cheeks. Thousands of thoughts and memories runs through her mind right now as regrets felt all over her body.
Regrets for pushing him away.
Regrets for not accepting his efforts.
Regrets for not accepting his love.
Dahee’s sobs is overpowered by the loud speaker played for departing announcement throughout the airport. As soon as the announcement made, countless of people made their way to the depart gate—passing by Dahee who is getting herself together, thinking she has lost Younghyun before she could do anything to fix between both of them.
Mustering her strength, Dahee wipes her tears off her eyes and cheeks as she turns around, walking away from her spot just now.
However, as Dahee took a few steps, she caught a familiar face that stares at her that made her track stop
It’s Younghyun, with his luggage at the side.
As if on switch, her tears once again rolled down her cheeks as she made way to Younghyun.
Dahee didn’t know if the tears is the happy tears because she found him or sad tears because he’s leaving her.
“Youn—” Dahee tries to speak to him as she stands in front of him
“What are you doing here?” Younghyun interrupts her—he didn’t miss out on how baffled Dahee is when he cuts her off. He take a good look on her face—the face that he will miss later however, part of him still hurt from what she had done to him.
His words really stung right into her heart, it’s really hurt her when she heard Younghyun spat the words coldly but she just accept because she knows he hurts more from her actions. Dahee gathered her courage and look up at him.
“Look, I’m really sorry. I know I—”
“I need to go now.” Younghyun said—he know, the longer he stay, the more complicated things would be
Once again, he cuts her off and he tries to walk away from Dahee but she caught his wrist, making the man stop in his tracks.
“Please, one minute then you can go.” Dahee softly said, eyes pleading with tears pooling at corner of her eyes, something that Younghyun couldn’t resist when his loved one insist to stay.
Willingly, Younghyun stays for her as Dahee let go of her grip on his wrist.
“Fine, you got one minute” Younghyun clear his throat as he fix his watch, looking at the time.
Dahee took a deep breathe “I know you’re tired hearing this but I’m really sorry for everything. I’m sorry for pushing you away, for not trusting you. Back then, I know I didn’t appreciate for what you had done to me, which is brings back Dowoon to me, I’m really sorry for that.” She said as Dahee looks at Younghyun who has his gazes unwavering when they made eye contact.
Somehow, it makes Dahee shiver throughout her body. It makes her hesistate to continue her words upon seeing his expressionless face but Dahee know she gonna miss the chance if she didn’t let out all of her feelings before Younghyun leave. “And I’m sorry for not acknowledging my feelings towards you. You showed to me abundant of loves but I didn’t appreciate it. You did everything to me while I did nothing for you. I know I deserve nothing but I just want to let you know that I finally realized that....I love you Younghyun.” Dahee confess, felt like time stopped and everything went silent at the moment despite they’re at the airport.
She tries to read Younghyun’s face but he keeps his expression straight as if he didn’t affected with Dahee’s words.
After examining her expression for awhile, Younghyun lets out a small scoff.
“Wow, I really hate you.” Younghyun reply, making Dahee’s heart broke once again.
A/n : I really hope you like it, it became too emotional i guess, since I’m kinda in that mood but I’m always open to criticism so if you don’t like it I can always write again!!! And i love you, thank you for requesting, that made me so freaking happy!!!!
“I really don’t feel like going out.” You said to your boyfriend who was on the phone trying to convince you that you should go out with friends tonight.
“But I already said yes, COME OOONNN PLEAAASEEEE!!!”
“Brian, I really feel tired. I just wanna lay my ass on the bed and stay that way for the whole night.”
“Y/n, I promise you’re gonna have fun, just give it a go please!”
“Oof, you really do wanna go, don’t you?”
“Yes yes yes yes yes!!”
“Okay, I’ll get ready then.”
“YAAAYYYY!!!! I’ll take you at 9!”
“Okay, where will we be by the way? Do I have to look good?”
“No, jeans and a shirt will do.”
“Okay.”
“I love youuuuu! See you tonight!” He said before hanging up on you.
To be honest, you really weren’t feeling it. You were tired and emotionally drained from work. The only thing you wanted to do was laying down in your bed and watch the ceiling for who knows how long. Still, you couldn’t go against your boyfriend’s excited voice.
It was past 8pm already so you had to drag yourself from the couch you had sloppily thrown yourself on before. Groaning to yourself, you walked to your room and chose a pair of pants and t-shirts. You wouldn’t be bothered to wear something uncomfortable even though you knew Brian’s friends would also be there and you always wanted to leave a good impression on them. Let it be like this for once, you thought.
You let your hair down, still trying to look decent since you had no idea where you would be going. Put some mascara on, threw one last look at yourself in the mirror and took your phone in your hands.
“I’m ready” you texted your boyfriend.
“5 min.” He replied.
That meant you could wait for him outside since he would be there eventually. You took your keys and left home.
———
“Where are we going?”
“Shhh, you’ll see when we arrive. Boys are already there.” He said, giving a side look to you. “And, you look beautiful.”
“Don’t lie, this literally is my ‘iwannasleep’ look.” You said, kinda appreciating the way he tried to lift up your mood.
“Nope, this is my new favorite look on you.”
———
“Ookay, here we aree!!” He said cheerfully after parking the car at a place far from anywhere but the sand and sea. It was the most beautiful starry night and you couldn’t see any light except one fire coming from somewhere not so far away. The city was so long before you now.
“Young Hyun, this is beautiful..” you said -more like whispered- in amazement. Even though you’ve lived in that city since the day you were born, you’ve never known there was somewhere that far from the rush of the city and that close to the sea. Apparently not so many people knew that either, there were only 4 people on the seaside, Younghyun and you being two of them.
“Let’s join the guys?” He said smiling at your cute and amazed face.
You got out of the car into the calm breeze of the sea and sound of waves. It was only two steps you took before Younghyun came and held your hand in his.
“I think you might get cold with this t-shirt.” He said, making it sound like a question.
“Yes I might get cold, I didn’t think we would be outside.”
“Wait, I got something for you.”
He said and left you waiting for him to get something from the backseat of the car. He came back with a shiny package.
“Don’t be so surprised, I saw this at the mall yesterday and thought it would look good on you.” He shook his shoulders.
You took the package from him, turning it in your hands.
“You didn’t need to buy something for me.”
“Y/n, let’s not say stuff like that okay? I know I didn’t need to, I just wanted to.” The way he was looking into your eyes melted your heart.
“Thank you.” You smiled and proceeded to open the package. A sweater. The softest one you’ve ever seen.
“I thought maybe you would like it.” He said expectantly.
You looked at the sweater again before hugging him and burying your face in his chest.
“I loved it, i love you.” You mumbled.
———
Lowkey.
That was the word describing your relationship. Even when you were with his friends now, even when you were all singing by the fire and having fun, you two lowkey had your own world. Even when you shared a world with the other people, you two always had your own safe place. Even when you two sat far from each other , like at that moment, your eyes and souls always found each other.
Even though you were smiling at that moment, he knew you needed to be alone.
“Okay!! We had fun and games but now I’m taking my love to a walk! Gentlemen if you excuse us, we’ll be away from your noise!” He said standing up from his place on sand and waiting for you to do the same.
“Don’t get lost!” Said one of his friends. “In the sand and in your own romance, I mean.” He went on with a mocking voice like he had just said something that must’ve embarrassed you.
“None of your business.” Said your boyfriend sassily, taking your sweater paw in his hand and dragging you away from them.
———
You were far away from anyone, walking silently but sharing the silence and taking the moment in.
You felt his steps getting slower and his hand slowly letting go of your own.
“Can’t you tell me what’s been bothering you for some while?” He asked slowly.
“I could, but I don’t know what it is or how i can describe it.” You turned to him and answered, not even surprised at how well he could guess you.
“Would you wanna talk about it to make it more clear to see?”
“I would prefer to let it go, I really don’t know what is the actual problem. That might just be tiredness getting to me.”
“You’re working too hard lately.”
“I know.”
Silence.
The cold breeze getting in your hair..
“Can I ask you a question?” You made a sudden request.
“Yes.”
“How would you name what we have as a one word emotion?”
“Can I think about it for a while?”
“Yes.” You turned and started to walk again.
He followed you from behind.
He loved how naive your figure looked in his eyes. He loved how strong you were. He loved how you made him feel strong just by being with him. He loved the feeling of that moment. He loved that moment. He carved that moment in his mind, that view of your back, your hair floating around with breeze, the sea at your right, the sand you were walking on. Your scent traveling with the breeze, who knows to where..
“Home.” He said, not too loud but loud enough for you to hear.
You turned your face to him.
“Home.” He repeated. “It feels like home.”
You waited for him to go on.
He came closer and took you in his arms. Your face was half burried to his chest again.
“It feels like I’m where I supposed to be. It feels like I’m complete. It feels safe.” He said very slowly. Like if he said those words a bit more loudly, the magic would’ve been gone. Like you were a fairy that could easily be scared if he was a bit louder.
“It feels like there’s this missing piece of me that you hold. When I hug you like this, it’s complete. It’s only then complete. Even when we’re apart, it’s like I’m yearning to come back to you. It’s like you hold the key that had been missing for so long. It’s like you are the only one, your heart is the only place I feel like I can be myself in. It’s like I would be missing a lot if I didn’t have you. It feels like I am strong because even when I fall down, I know I have a place to turn back and let my tiredness go away. It’s like home.”
You let the words sink in with his scent filling your heart, your eyes closed.
“Y/n, please be okay. Please be here for me. Please give me more strength when I feel weaker. Please stay here.”
“Okay.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.” You whispered into his chest, refusing to let him go at that moment, even though the breeze was leaving you in shivers.

“ y/n, aren’t you heading home yet?”
the sound of your typing slows to a halt as you finally look up from your computer screen after staring at it the whole day, blinking furiously in an attempt to drive the tiredness away. sohye’s head pops out from behind the door of your office, concern briefly flickering across her face as she takes in the mess of your usually organised surroundings. papers were scattered across your table, you knew there were at least three different files lying open on the couch and a multitude of post it notes were pasted across the department whiteboard that you had (with much effort) managed to roll into the room.
you attempt a reassuring smile at your closest friend and colleague in the department, although at this point you’re sure it looks more like a grimace.
“well, i’m hoping to be done with this by 7?” you catch the clock ticking to 6.45 out of the corner of your eye and inwardly sigh, “scratch that. maybe 8?”
sohye frowns for a moment, before stepping into your office. “i could come in early tomorrow to finish up the rest of the pitch and presentation? especially since you’re supposed to be on leave. minjung said she would be in early as well!”
“i’ll finish up what i can and email the rest to the department to finish. don’t worry so much and go home, shoo shoo.” you wave a hand at her and she nods somewhat reluctantly, turning around to leave.
“you better make sure you leave at 8.” she calls out as she turns to exit your office, not before fixing you with a stern glare that you know from past experience meant that she wasn’t playing around.
“yes mom.” you drone, waving your hands quickly at her in a shooing motion. “please leave safely.”
“i swear i’ll swap all the pen caps on your coloured pens-”, you tune out the rest of her exasperated shouts as she heads to the elevators, staring at your computer screen for a second before running a hand down your face in frustration.
today was not your day.
when you had woken up, you were more than prepared to have a week of well-deserved rest and relaxation. what you discovered was an urgent email from your boss telling you that you had to come into work for an emergency (leave or no leave), you had managed to fall and bruise your arm before even leaving the house and spilled coffee on your favourite blouse. upon reaching work, you realised an incredibly dumb tech intern had managed to wipe out all the files pertaining to the upcoming pitch your company had prepared for a major client (hence the emergency) and that your department had to redo it all by the weekend.
“and of course, all this just has to happen the one time i decide to clear the leave i have backlogged. and when he’s finally back home.” you grumble to yourself as you grudgingly continue typing. a chime sounds and you reach over to grab your phone, unlocking it to see messages from said person you were talking about.
6.54pm
[goat husbando]: hey hey i landed already. how u doing? .o.
[goat husbando]: also its raining did you pack an umbrella?
[you]: i’m ok
[you]: i think so?
[you]: should have a spare one in my office anyway
[goat husbando]: ok see u soon :”)
a smile creeps onto your face, as it sinks in that your husband is finally back in the country after what seemed like an eternity (admittedly only six months) on tour in europe and america. taking a moment to stretch your sore muscles from sitting all day, you think back to how you even met him and wonder how you managed to survive it all.
- 24th july, 9.32pm. -
you take a sip of your chai latte, taking in the skyline of seoul before you. "being up here really puts my worries into perspective." you mutter to yourself.
all of a sudden, a body crashes into you and you yelp in surprise, hands instinctively grabbing onto the railing to support your weight. your chai latte, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky and you stare mournfully as it falls from your grip.
"oh my god, i am so so sorry! are you okay? ok i guess you're not, i just made you lose your drink. damn it younghyun, look at what you did-"
turning to look at the situation after making sure your limbs were all intact, you meet a tall boy, his blonde hair tousled by the wind, wire rimmed glasses perched on his nose. he was clad in an oversized flannel, a simple black shirt and blue denim jeans completing the outfit.
"um-" you make an effort to get this attention, seeing him arguing with another boy, his hair dyed with purple hues.
he spins around, hands flailing in desperation, eyes large from worry. "i am so sorry! aH what can i do to make it up to you??"
you can't help it. at the sight of him panicking immensely over your spilt latte, you burst into laughter, hands wrapping around your middle. "you.. you look like... like an octopus." you manage to get out in between breaths.
the boy ceased all movement abruptly, moving to lean against the railing next to you. "i guess i kind of do huh?" he chuckles to himself. extending a hand towards you, he smiles - a grin so bright and disarming that it takes your breath away for a split second.
"park jaehyung. how about i buy another drink for you?"
you guessed that the rest, like people said was history.
but the past six months truly felt like the longest six months of your life. it was his first tour after the both of you got married and you convinced yourself that things would be fine. life without jaehyung seemed to function normally at first, you still woke up in the mornings and went to work, just that the bed seemed a little larger now, blankets a little colder when you wrapped yourself in them. skype sessions were irregular given the time differences, but you both tried your best and you would be lying if you said you weren’t happy that you had a folder of pictures dedicated to one park jaehyung falling asleep in the midst of conversation. by the third month of the tour, you were in “peak withdrawal mode” as sohye had termed, with every small thing reminding you of the tall idiot who occupied your heart.
grocery shopping and having to stretch for items that he would normally reach easily for. subconsciously cooking for two instead of one. turning around excitedly to show him a meme and realising he wasn't around. missing his warmth as the weather turned colder and you dug out old sweaters to compensate.
the fourth month was when you started wearing his shirts to bed. somehow they still smelled like him, a comforting mix of sandalwood and grapefruit. the video calls lessened as the weeks went by, what with how tired he was from the consecutive shows. still, you pushed on - burying yourself in work and department meetings, refusing to allow yourself time to dwell on the missing presence of park jaehyung.
and then you re-watched the proposal video.
it was a random evening on the weekend and you decided to clear out some random bits and bobs you collected in your drawers over the years, when you saw the disc. once the video started, you immediately knew what it was. the video was shaky and badly lit, but watching it, you could see every moment that happened in your mind as clear as day.
- 23rd july 2018, 11.54pm -
“isn’t the view nice?” the camera lens veers into your face as you lean against a metal railing, making you flinch and jump back slightly.
"not so close, alex!" you laugh and push the camera backwards, turning back to the open view in front of you. you take a deep breath of the cool night air and stretch your arms out, feeling the wind rush between your fingertips.
"hey hey of course i'm excited! i haven't visited you in ages and to get to tour seoul with you? have some sympathy for your best friend ok." the voice behind the camera rises in pitch and the screen fumbles for a second before readjusting and a blonde appears next to you, holding up a peace sign.
the video ends up focusing on you again, back to leaning against the railing, eyes drinking in the night scenery - watching the city lights of seoul twinkle beneath you.
"you really like this place huh?" alex asks again.
you nod, smiling into the distance. "i met jaehyung here. about seven years ago? and we came here a lot for dates, it's quiet and hardly anyone can be bothered to walk up here since it's only footpaths up to this peak. we just sat around, ate take-out and talked together. i remember he asked me out here too. he brought his acoustic guitar and sang 'best part' before asking me to be his girlfriend."
you turn around to look at her, eyes narrowing slightly before you spot jaehyung behind her, carrying his well-worn acoustic guitar.
he slowly walks towards you, a grin on his face as he strums the guitar.
"if you love me, i can love you till the end. so stay with me don't go anywhere. you will be without a doubt, my last love story. so please be my finale."
he reaches you, taking off his guitar and leans down to give you a quick kiss on the forehead. kneeling in front of you, he grasps your hands and takes a breath.
"hey y/n. wow ok, i'm totally more nervous than i thought i was going to be. ok ok. we met here on this day-", he quickly looks down at his watch, "on this day seven years ago. meeting you has changed my life, as cliche as it sounds. during these seven years, you've supported me through all the good times and the bad, even when i might have been out of the country and not able to do the same for you. i once asked you to be my girlfriend here. but now, i want to ask another question. is that ok?"
you can only nod in response, tears already gathering in the corners of your eyes.
"y/n, would you do be the honour of being my wife?"
"yes, yes! park jaehyung, i would love to be your wife."
you paused the video then, curling into a ball on the couch. the apartment had never seemed emptier than at that moment, jaehyung’s missing larger than life presence causing an absence that left a gaping hole in your life. even the dish towels looked sadder, you laughed while blinking back tears as you made your nightly cup of tea. a few minutes later, you were seated by your bedside, staring at the cup of hot honey lemon you had somehow subconsciously made. it was jaehyung’s favourite drink before bed and as the scent of honey flooded your nose, you broke down. that night, you cried yourself to sleep listening to his albums, missing the feeling of his arms around you.
a loud knock on the door breaks you out of your reminiscing and you look up, mouth dropping open in surprise.
"someone requested for a delivery of one tall handsome man?"
park jaehyung leans languidly against the door of your office, a cheeky smirk on his face. his hair messily ruffled from the plane ride, one hand in his jacket pocket and the other holding a multitude of plastic bags.
"what-" you begin, when he shuffles over immediately, index finger out and shushing you.
when did he get here from the airport? how?
you were stunned, mind torn between wanting to run over to hug him and struck by how well he knew you.
"i figured i would pick my lovely wife up from work today. and i bought some takeout along the way too - it's your favourite - sushi and some strawberry shortcake from that small bakery you like. i got the car parked downstairs and i know you're definitely tired."
he places the food down on the office table, leaning down to peck your forehead as he somehow manages to simultaneously save the work on your laptop and shut it down. "so, how about say we head home hm?"
he cocks his head at you, and as you stare into his eyes, you know there's only one correct answer. you can never refuse park jaehyung. so you shut your eyes briefly, savouring the weight of his hand as he strokes your hair before getting up to pack your belongings.
"ah, i forgot. younghyun invited us to dinner tomorrow. wanna go?" he asks without looking at you, hands tapping away on his phone.
and you suddenly realise that he's always asking the questions. always making sure you're comfortable. always being there to catch you before you fall. you set your half-packed bag down on the table and reach out, tugging the edge of his coat.
"hey." you lick your lips, watch as his eyes trace the edges of your face. "park jaehyung, can i kiss you?"
his eyes imperceptibly widen, hand reaching up to run his fingers through his hair as he grins teasingly. "how can i say no when you're asking me like that y/n?", he whispers, voice catching slightly on your name.
so, you reach a hand out, cupping his face and pull him down towards you as you tiptoe to reach him. the warmth of his lips on yours grounds you, releasing a tension you didn't even know you had and you snake your other hand around his waist, drawing him closer. his hands settle around your lower back, tongue slipping into your mouth as you him kiss deeper.
when you finally break away, face slightly flushed and lips redder than before, you catch a glimpse of jaehyung's smirk and refuse to look him in the eye. "you really missed me, didn't you?" he traces a finger down the side of your cheekbones.
your response is to bury your face into his chest, breathing in the familiar scent of sandalwood. "i did. i really did miss you."
"mm. i would love to stand here and hug you all day but the food's gonna get cold babe. besides, you got me to yourself all night." he slowly untangles himself from your embrace, and you proceed to gather up your things. fingers firmly intertwined with his as you leave the office, your heart skips a beat as you look up at jaehyung.
Just an average writer trying to get her random-ass thoughts out so she feels a lil’ less lonely and a lil’ less crazy. I write mainly Kpop fics and stuff for BTS and NCT, but I dabble in some Day6 and Stray Kids love every now and then. As far as a content range, anywhere from every-day life to fantasy, nothing’s off the table. I keep it pretty PG, smut isn’t really my thing (at least to write anyways), but who knows, I change my mind often. Hi so it’s been ages and yeah, I’m bad at posting so here’s something I thought of while listening to Touch by Cigarettes After Sex. It’s also inspired by something I wrote for someone but never published.
CW: None?
It’d been a while since he’d been truly home. Been a while since he held your hands and kissed your forehead when you cried. Been a while since he held your body to keep you from having nightmares that occasionally slipped past the medication that prevented them.
Your apartment was mostly empty; you’d packed away every reminder of Brian into boxes and shoved them to the side. That left your living room empty because everything in it reminded you of him. The couch was covered in plastic, shoved into the spare room. The rain hit your windows, the french doors leading to the patio, the patio itself. Everything sounded of rain.
Quietly, you reminisced over his voice. You missed his laughter, his soft singing voice, the song that he used as a lullaby for you ever since he’d met you, well, ever since he fell in love with you.
In love with you?
You couldn’t remember when that was when he started to love you. You couldn’t remember the first time he kissed you and told you he’d run away with you, told you that he loved you.
Asked you to marry him, even.
You heard a knock at the door, and hastily, you got up, opening it to see one of his friends standing in the hallway. You sighed, letting him in. This was better than nothing. Kim Wonpil you could trust, and you did wholeheartedly.
“Moving out?” he asked. You shook your head, returning to your spot on the floor. He followed you, looking around. The grandfather clock was stopped, the piano was covered, it was like someone had died.
“Did...did someone die?”
You shook your head. “Nothing died. Other than love itself.”
Wonpil let out a sigh. “Love is still there, you know. He’ll be back soon.”
You shook your head. He was gone for months, nearly a year. He left without a word, without a phone call, without a text. Without a final note to tell you. How did he love you so, then? How did he tell Wonpil that he’d return?
You fumbled with the ring around your finger, tears dotting the corners of your eyes. It’s a promise ring, baby. Remember me when I’m gone, remember me even when I return. Your heart stuttered. Your hands began to shake.
“Hey, stop it. Look, I can call him right now, okay?”
You nodded slowly, looking down at the wood panels of your floor. You heard the dial tone as Wonpil set the phone between you two. To your surprise, it picked up.
“Wonpil? You know it’s late, why are you up?”
“I’m busy fixing things.”
“Fixing what?”
“Come to your old address and you’ll know.”
You heard the sigh come from the other end. Brian was tired of this, clearly. Wonpil must’ve told him this a million times. You saw Wonpil’s eyes flicker with something, perhaps a sad emotion. You watched him get up and take the phone with him into the spare room.
“You can’t run away from her, you know... Okay, but she still wears the ring... Brian!.. Please... I’ll order pizza... Great... Bye.”
Wonpil came back, sliding down next to you. You stared at the door, waiting on the doorbell to ring, waiting on someone to be there to hold you again.
It seemed like hours before the knock did come.
“Wonpil!”
Wonpil got up, sliding in his socks to the door and catching the doorknob before he could fall. He opened it, pulling the taller man inside.
Brian now stood before you, and you stared up at him. You saw his eyes glance at your fingers, and his breath caught.
“You really do love me, huh,” he mumbled.
“You doubted that?”
You stood up shakily, and he moved to catch you before you fell down. He nodded slightly, looking away in shame. How could he doubt you? How could he leave thinking you never loved him to begin with?
“Brian, I-”
“No. No, don’t, please. I’m the one who’s sorry, okay? I’m sorry I left..”
He’d pulled you tight into his arms, and the tears you were holding back spilled over onto his jacket.
No matter how much it hurt, you always loved Brian. And no matter how much he doubted it, you always had loved him. Always.
