This Wednesday’s funday food extravaganza included a trip to Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream in the Bowery. It was a hot and muggy day so it was a perfect for ice cream. Cookies and Cream, Raspberry Cheesecake, salted Chocolate were all delicious, but the standout by far was the Vanilla Bourbon which was outstanding! As long as I can remember, the school year has always started the Wednesday after Labor Day. This year, for some inexplicable reason, NYC schools started on a Thursday. Why? Who knows. The good news is that it gave me and the kids an extra day to hang out before school started. It turned out to be a pretty eventful day. We ended up having an impromptu food, neighborhood and architecture tour around Manhattan starting in Washington Heights and then to Flatiron, Gramercy Park, back to Flatiron, then to SOHO, the Bowery, Little Italy and finally back to SOHO. To start the day we even fit in a family trip to the Eye Doctor for checkups to make sure everyone was ready for school. If you haven’t had one in a while, go get your eyes checked. For lunch the kids decided we must eat @xianfoods and how could I argue with that?!?! We all love Xian’s Famous Foods and their big, fat, flat noodles in spicy broth! Which do you prefer, flat noodles with slow cooked oxtails or spicy pork shoulder? Both are so good so get both!
