can i hear more about the one year later au 🎤
thank you kitty for asking :)
One Year Later au is essentially the general tag/shorthand I'm using to refer to the story changes that Jay (mostly him tbh), Jon, and Nia go through in a collection of scenarios I discuss on occasion with other people (and am slooowly working on posting to tumblr). Because I need a timeskip for a lot of this to work/to be able to get to the stuff I want to draw, it works to just nebulously set it A Year Later from current canon.
Here are the cliffnotes:
Jay
Jay, after 6-8 months of extreme training (usually in my head under Talia Al Ghul), has become the primary hero/symbol of Gamorra and is actively working on organizing another revolution, this time with the intent of fully toppling Gamorra's ruling class instead of just exchanging one dictator for another. He's essentially the protagonist of most of these storylines and the focal character in most concept art I will do for this AU, since in my mind this entire series of events would be set in Gamorra.
Events include things like killing Yumiko Gamorra (the last surviving member of the Gamorra Clan, who practically owns the island), purging the three minor clans from Gamorra, toppling organized crime from other countries looking to exploit the people there, revitalizing the PLF, fighting against Stormwatch and eventually killing Majestros in a battle for the capital city and installing a socialist government, dealing with vengeful ghosts of Gamorrans and other Magic Cyberpunk Shit typical of the setting, etc etc etc.
Sometimes I tag this Jay design as my mage!jay design because the idea I am working with is in his quest to acquire as many relevant skills as possible he also returns to his own cultures magic tradition and starts doing Awesome Cyberpunk Wizard Shit.
Jon
Jon has the most dramatic character arc of the characters I've dealt with so far because frankly he has the most shit to work through. During the span of the OYL au, Jon goes from quitting the titans and working with Stormwatch to try and 'help' jay see things more reasonably, becoming radicalized as he realizes basically everyone he grew up idolizing has evil in their hearts, double crossing Stormwatch by sending Jay information secretly, getting CAUGHT doing this and almost violently murdered by Majestros, ending up in Gamorra and being forced to go through an extremely long recovery arc where he a) gets fat b) achieves True Woke and fully throws in with the revolution.
The name 'Daybreak' that he ends up taking later in the AU was proposed by @gossamerblue and is inspired by the Gamorran sunrise during Jon's recovery period being a source of comfort for him.
This causes a bit of a schism in the Superfamily that takes a long time to properly resolve and never fully heals.
Nia
Nia is currently the member of this little trio I've thought about probably the least but I still have a general idea of where I want her to end up.
Nia ends up turning herself into the Gamorran government when she gets that Jay's problem is less personal and more 'you did material harm to my people as a whole'. Problem is, this is kind of Before the Glorious Revolution, so Gamorra's government is in a very delicate balance and she ends up kind of the chew toy in a tug of war between the left wing and right wing halves of Gamorra's government. She gets assigned to join the Gamorra Corps as her punishment for her conviction, which means she's often unsure if she's actually helping the Gamorran people or if she's just once again a lap dog for the government. However, Nia's learned a few things since her last go around, and instead of going "I SOLVE EVERYTHING MYSELF! :D" like a moron she actively snitches to Jay about EVERYTHING from top secret building layouts and where they're going to be moving specific targets to what they fed her for breakfast.
I still have to think a little more on this but I do plan on drawing some stuff that I've been thinking about re: Jayjon's relationship trajectory specifically because Jon has to GROVELLLLLL before he gets anywhere in the vicinity of FRIENDS, forget more. Same with Nia.
added some more elements from tomorrow mans suit to my Daybreak costume concept. i like it much more now
