Kara Zor-El landed on a planet where the yellow sun gave her great powers but required a strange diet. Having landed on the outskirts of the Gotham swamp she found her way to the city, and met another kid on the street, who made her heart glad she was there as a quiet support and helpmeet until he left Crime Alley to become Robin.
Eventually, however, he comes back to her, changed, and Gotham will never be the same.
