This has nothing to do with the third season, but I just had to say it.
DC Titan’s has so many good concepts and ideas just there, ready to be use, and it’s like the show literally goes out of its way not to use what they themselves have literally set up.
For example:
You have Dick being all stubborn and saying how he’s nothing like Bruce and that he doesn’t want to be him; and then, while technically not the first thing he did when he went off on his own,
HE ADOPTS AN ORPHAN!!!
I just…
Why isn’t there a scene of Dick going on and on about how he’s nothing like Bruce and the older Teen Titans are just looking at him baffled, then looking at each other, then Raven, and then back at Dick on repeat.
How is that not a scene in this show? Like how?
Like all of them are trying to figure out if they should even say something and whether or not they should be concerned that Dick does not see the connection, let alone that he just thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to unofficially adopt the first orphan he comes across.
Oh, and then he just gets a second teenager, literally a week or two (at most) after he got his first one.
Seriously, Titans where is my scene of the older Titans whispering to themselves about whether they should hold an intervention, and then quickly hushing up when Dick enters, and the main plot can happen or whatever.
Look, I agree that Curran Walters does NOT have the body to play Jason Todd. I completely get that. And the fact he is so small makes it kind of weird. Maybe they should have asked him to bulk up a little more? IDK.
But nobody, and I mean NOBODY can say that he is not acting the hell out of his role. He is amazing this season, just like he was amazing in the last two seasons. He might not have the body to play the Red Hood. But he 100% has the acting skills.
As the protege of Black Canary and Green Arrow, you were on Batman’s radar for the Titans.
You were younger than the others, meaning Dawn and Hank kept an eye on you whilst Dick felt the glare of both Green Arrow and Black Canary down his neck on each mission.
Both of them were in Star City, but they kept tabs on you in San Francisco. They said that they’d come get you if anything bad happened.
Of course as soon as you were reminded of that, Aqualad was shot by Deathstroke.
When Atlantis found out, so did Dinah and Oliver.
You weren’t eighteen for another month, so you were pulled from the Titans, on the condition that Oliver and Dinah would train you and you could become your own hero.
They thought it was safer if you were away from the Titans.
They didn’t know you’d had a crush on Donna since you were brought to a meeting where Donna and Dick were also there.
You were five years younger than Donna and Dick, but you had Dinah’s sonic scream so they didn’t dare leave you with a babysitter. Especially not since you discovered your scream.
Of course Donna and Dick didn’t want to be your babysitters either but you just glared and kicked Dick in the shins hard enough that Donna laughed.
You knew about Jericho but not what happened to him.
You were already gone by the time that Jericho sacrificed himself to save Dick from Deathstroke.
You spent five years thinking about what happened and the Titans you left behind.
Dinah told you that Dick had tried to contact you but she told him she didn’t know where you were.
That was a lie.
You were training on an island in the North China sea with Oliver for a year before you travelled the globe for the next three.
The final year, you were in Star City.
Oliver and Dinah had left you to handle the streets with Roy whilst they tackled the super-villains, that’s what Roy grumbled anyway.
You didn’t know that Roy had been in contact with Donna.
///
“You need to go to San Francisco.” Roy stated inbetween bites of the pizza the two of you had gotten.
The rooftop the two of you had taken a break on was quiet and kept you both hidden as Roy brought the pizza.
“Why the hell do I need to go to back there?”
“Because Donna called and I know you aren’t going to say no to her.” Roy replied, smirking into the pizza as you rolled your eyes.
“Okay, first, it was a stupid teen crush. Second, you just want to get rid of me so you don’t have to patrol the streets with me anymore.” You retorted but Roy just raised an eyebrow, staring at you.
“Am I getting a flight or am I finally getting a car?” You enquired as you held the pizza crust between your lips.
Roy just laughed at that, leaving you to roll your eyes and groan.
///
You couldn’t get the suit through customs and Oliver wasn’t available for you to take a private jet from Queen Industries.
Roy ditched you quickly but left you with something.
An old Volkswagen car which had you rolling your eyes as you opened the boot to ditch your gear.
“Ugh, okay, what’s the weather in San Francisco?” You mumbled to yourself, checking your phone before it began to buzz like crazy.
“Breaking News... what has Grayson gotten himself into now?” You grumbled to yourself before putting your seatbelt on and heading for San Francisco.
You were heading down through Oregon when another piece of news went off.
“Rogue vigilantes responsible for tiger attacks? Ugh I need to check in more often.”
///
It took you over 13 hours to reach San Francisco, with the added breaks at petrol stations and service stations for food.
You parked your car in the bay at Titans Tower but nobody was there, leaving you to suit up and head out to find them, stealing an old motorbike that was being kept at the tower in the process.
“Deathstroke! Get down!” Donna exclaimed as she slammed on the brakes, trying to combat how Deathstroke had fired at the tyres.
“You guys hear that?” Dawn asked in the panic, leaving Donna to gawp as she glanced up.
“You’ve got to be kidding me-” Donna explained before Deathstroke opened fire on the car.
A sonic scream had everyone freeze as you approached from behind, drawing Deathstroke’s attention as you ziplined down from above.
It was then that Dick made his move, jumping onto the roof of the car as the two of you made eye contact.
“You should’ve stayed home. Both of you.” Deathstroke growled, moving to open fire again but you and Dick were already attacking.
“Who’s that?”
“What’s Y/n doing here?”
“That’s what he meant by sending back-up.” Donna realised, leaving Dawn to frown.
“What the fuck?” Dawn grumbled, leaving Dick to turn around.
“Dick?” Donna murmured, staring out of the shattered windscreen.
“Who’s hit?”
“Kory.” Rachel replied, leaving Dick to glance at you as you screamed, sending Deathstroke skidding back.
“You take care of her. I’ll take care of him, Y/n-”
“New suit? Looks better, no stupid cape.” You chuckled, dodging a sword in the process.
“New costume, but same old Dick Grayson. I told you what would happen if the Titans ever reunited. Now, it’s happening.” Deathstroke began to gloat, making you roll your eyes at him.
“Y’know what’s also happening? Some beast boy is attacking a fun fair and we have to deal with someone who was never going to win father of the year, let’s be honest!” You retorted, dodging Deathstroke again before Dick began to speak.
“Jericho, I know you’re in there, I know you’re alive.”
“Don’t say his name!” Deathstroke exclaimed, leaving Dick to gesture to you to check on the others.
“Hey, Donna, Dawn, people I haven’t met yet.”
“What the hell are you doing here Y/n?” Dawn asked, leaving you to avoid Donna’s eyes by looking at the two you didn’t know.
“Arsenal sent me, roadtripped it from Star City to save your asses.”
“Language-”
“I’m not seventeen anymore, Dawn... who the hell is she? I spend four years globe-vigilanting and turns out there’s a whole new load of heroes.” You replied, watching as Deathstroke’s daughter (Dawn explained quickly) was fighting with Dick to take down Deathstroke.
///
The fun fair was trashed by the time the Titans arrived.
Cadmus was controlling Conner and Gar, leaving Dove, Kory and Wondergirl to try deal with Conner as Rachel went to go find Gar.
“Why is he looking at me like that?” Dove asked, leaving Wondergirl to deadpan.
“Probably ‘cause you’re dressed like a giant bird.”
“He has no clue who we are.” Kory realised before Dove made a suggestion.
“I think you should go talk to him.”
Donna’s incredulous look almost had you laughing from where you were hidden, planning a stealth attack if everything went sideways with Conner.
“Why me?”
“I don’t know, he’s Kryptonian, you’re Themysciran. Maybe he’ll relate.” Dove replied, trying to nudge Donna who just grumbled an ‘okay’ under her breath.
“Fine.”
Donna walked over carefully, leaving you to gesture to a civillian to stay out of the way.
“Hi Conner, pleasure to meet you, I’m Donna Troy. We haven’t officially met but you know, I’ve heard great things,” Donna tried, gaining no response from Conner who just glared at her despite the blank look on his face.
“Okay, fuck it. Look, I don’t know who’s pulling your strings right now, but you need to snap out of it, okay? From what they say, you’re at least half Superman, so can we dig down and find that half-”
An idea hit you in that moment, reaching for the lead-lined compartment of your quiver to find the one arrow you knew would at least slow Conner down.
A kryptonite arrow.
You grimaced as Conner finally moved, punching Donna in the face. She staggered back slightly, looking more annoyed than anything.
“That was rude.”
You were about to move when you heard metal scrapping the ground.
“Wondered where Hawk fucked off to.” You muttered, ignoring how you knew Dawn heard that over the comms as Conner had both Kory and Hank by the throats.
“Hey Superboy! Wanna hear a secret?” You asked aloud, jumping on Conner’s back.
Your sonic scream was enough to mess with the communicator CADMUS had put in Conner’s ear along with being enough to disorientate the half-kryptonian.
“What the fuck Y/n-” Donna mumbled before you stabbed Conner in the leg with the kryptonite arrow, letting out a yell as Conner dropped both Kory and Hank in favour of sending you flying.
“Hey Conner-” Dawn managed to send him flying using a shard of mirror to reflect his heat vision back at him.
You were still lying on the floor as the others grouped up.
“Canary? The fuck are you doing here-” Hank began but you cut him off.
“It’s Black Arrow.” You deadpanned, watching as Conner caught a light grenade thrown at him, his place being taken by Dick.
“Perfect timing.” Someone chuckled but you weren’t sure who as you began to walk over, twirling your bow in your hand.
“Do you have a plan, other than yelling ‘hey Conner’?”
“Well the Kryptonite arrow I stole from Green Arrow’s quiver did something.” you admitted, leaving everyone to gawp at you.
“You did what?”
“Now, hang on a minute, you stole-”
“I have a plan, but we need Rachel.” Dick announced, taking the attention off of you as you ignored how Hank and Dawn were trying to parent you again, five years later.
///
The crackling caught your attention first, everything else turning to white noise.
People were running.
Hank was worried about Dawn.
Everyone was standing around and watching.
Waiting.
Black Arrow didn’t wait.
Not like you did as a baby canary.
“No more running.” You whispered to yourself, confusing Conner as he heard you.
Rachel was about to call out as she saw you step forwards, but everyone heard your canary cry.
It was more focused than the old Titans had ever seen it, aimed at the electric tower to straighten it back, removing four arrows from your quiver and firing them at the base.
“What the hell are those supposed to do-”
“It’s an expanding polymer that stablises stuff and is an insulator so that electricity can’t conduct.” You explained, ignoring Donna’s gaze as she watched you disconnect the power.
“Why did you do that?”
“Because I know what you would have done.” You retorted, finally meeting Donna’s eyes as she frowned.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
///
“I see you brought the sleeves back.”
Bruce Wayne’s observation had you pausing as you stopped sipping your water.
Everyone went quiet as you acknowledged Batman himself.
“GA had a run-in with Count Vertigo using an injectable version of the his ‘Vertigo Effect’ thus, bringing back the sleeves. They don’t really bother me though, stopped feeling the cold a while ago.” You explained, leaving Bruce to nod.
“Ah, yes, training on an island in the North China sea can do that to a person.”
“Wait, what?” Dawn began, frowning at Hank who looked just as confused.
“Sorry, I have to take this call.” You replied, pushing your chair back to leave the room.
“I feel like we’re playing catch up with a long lost relative.” Hank admitted, grimacing into his salad.
“Five years can do that to a person, especially if they were trained by Green Arrow and Black Canary all over the globe.” Dick admitted, leaving everyone to stare at him.
“You knew too?”
“Can somebody actually explain who she is?” Rose asked, voicing the question that the others were thinking.
i was completely prepared to hate blackfire. knowing how she was portrayed in teen titans, i wasn’t expecting much but GOD. i am loving the relationship she is building with kory. the way they are trying to work through their trauma & actively communicating – despite their issues in the past is wonderful. seeing blackfire learning to accept people and whatever she has brewing with connor is so interesting and she’s been done pretty well and i’m loving it.
