"Trust you?" Jabari repeated, looking down at his officer. Why would Hopps feel the need to tell him this? He could think of a few reasons why. He knows he didn't take Hopps seriously when Hopps tried telling him about savage animals and then when things hit the fan, when the truth came out, he felt genuine guilt for not believing Hopps then and there. Things got more worse but Hopps and Wilde saved the world, finding out who was responsible for the savage mammals.
He then again didn't take Hopps seriously over the fact that Hopps mentioned something about reptiles but he didn't believe her then but then there's the Zootennial Gala. He never expected Hopps to be right once again. Seeing that snake show up on that stage, he unconsciously let go of Wilde while processing what he saw right there with his own eyes. He remembered every mammal around him panicking and screaming.
He remembered seeing Hopps go after the snake after the snake took Milton. He saw Wilde try going after Hopps but got stuck. Shit. He just remembered trying to find another way to go after Hopps. He didn't know what was going through the bunny's mind at the time. He'd be damned if Hopps got in more trouble because of her own impulsive decisions.
From there, he rushed after Wilde. He never knew how fast the fox can be until this very moment. When he did eventually get to where his two officers were, everything was a blur from there. Last thing he remembered was the three of the Lynxleys being in that room and the snake panicking for some reason before something sharp pricked the top of his mouth.
Being in the hospital did not do great for his pride but he had no idea of the mess that both Wilde and Hopps got themselves into until later on. He can't get over the fact that Hopps and Wilde were labelled fugitive criminals on the run just because Hoggbottom thought Hopps was responsible for knocking him out. He'd seen the video and it made his heart fill with shame. He felt shame and yet anger.
"Hopps."
He spoke her name, his eyes focusing on Hopps.
"I should've trusted you two times when your instincts were right." He confessed, clenching his jaw. He can feel his hoof ball up into a fist.
"I should've heard the two of you out but I was so focused on what happened earlier in the day before the Zootennial Gala." He went silent, remembering what he told his officer.
Not every case is going to save the world.
He exhaled, still processing what happened. He pinched the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes.
"I know you trust me but I haven't showed much of my trust of you. That's going to change, starting now."
