Consider: an AU in which Shinichi and Conan are separate people. Let’s say Conan is a clone of Shinichi, created by the BO for some sinister reason. Now, Conan knows he’s a clone, and knows whoever he’s based on is a teenage genius. He doesn’t, however, know much else about his original. Not even his name.

So when Conan inevitably escapes the BO and runs into a teenager that looks exactly like himself but a decade older, and is clearly a genius prodigy, he latches on and doesn’t let go, spilling the entire story to his original, knowing he’ll be able to help.

Kaito isn’t quite sure how the BO got his DNA to clone him, but all they’ve done is hand him another person to get revenge for.
