Art Masterpost: King of the Empty  Story by Ryuosen  Art by @hawkland/sidewinder

The third and final of my 2023 @deancasreversebang collaborations is here for me to share today! This one is for an art piece I’d been planning out and working on for ages, and I’ve been sitting on it eagerly for over three months now. I’m super-excited to finally be able to share it with everyone!

The idea of Cas becoming the new ruler/embodiment of the Empty is something I’ve been obsessed with for a long time. I have a lot of thoughts about it—and Death!Dean, too, one of my other favorite post-S15 possibilities. But I wanted to see what another writer would do with the concept (as I was struggling with my own story ideas) so I told myself, “Do the art, make it happen.” And here we are! Thank you so much to Ryuosen for claiming my art and for writing such a wonderful story to go with it!  Please go read it here. As usual for me this was done in watercolor, on heavy/cold press paper to get the texture I love so much.

My concept for Dean’s scythe was that I wanted something rough-hewn, reminiscent of both his purgatory blade and the First Blade. Both the scythe and his ring features a blue stone/energy the same color as grace (and Cas’s eyes here). The main piece was really difficult to photograph well with all that dark background and using some translucent/interference paint for the “empty tentacles”, and also because it is just so big (24″ x 18″). But I hope these pictures do it the best justice I can manage (they’re taken in two different lighting situations.)  If you’re coming to MomentoCon this summer in Pittsburgh, you’ll be able to see the original (and many of my others) in person, as I’ll have a dealer’s table there in the exhibition hall.

I am so stoked to post my art for my second DCRB this year!

‘Sex Worker Dean Winchester’ and ‘Selectively Mute Dean Winchester’ live in my head rent-free. That was basically my whole prompt and @9x20 completely knocked it out of the park. She was a fantastic partner, and she wrote an amazing fic that I will read again and again and again. Please read Talk Pretty Fly and show her some love! 💙💚💙💚

I’ve always been a writer, and this was my first ever attempt at fan art and my first time doing any kind of art since high school. It’s pretty simple, just photo manips that are heavily filtered, but I had so much fun making it that I’ve been learning to do digital illustration from scratch ever since. But I’m really proud of how it turned out and even more proud of the fic that came from it, I hope you enjoy!

I have always wanted to draw some Fantasy AU!DeanCas! I had a dragon!Cas almost finished but decided at the last minute to switch to a bird-riding one :D wanted to draw Dean hiding in Cas' arms lol but turned out they were just riding happily together hhhh Dean is safe and happy as long as he is flying with Cas 💕

Sorry for the clumsy bird body I know nothing about bird anatomy😭 and I still do not have any designs for their outfit lol but I decide to just let them be hehe!

I want to say thank you to my author @thesilverqueenlady! The fic expands the plot and the dynamic of their relationship from the scene so sweetly. And it makes me love the birdy more - I sincerely didn't put too much thought into it when I drew the pic, just experimented with colors and shapes which I never used before, but the fic gives her a name and makes her come to life! I should not spoil more please go read it!

Also, I am so grateful to be in the same bang with so many talented artists - the way I was entranced by the art gallery and clicked every single piece and read through the prompts - it was 😭

I also want to say thank you to all mods who run this round of bang - efficient, organized, and helpful as always! Thank you for the effort and time you put in to run such an amazing bang!
