@salamitsunami1 and I are back with another collab!! This one was done for @deancasreversebang, and I was so ridiculously thrilled when I saw that she claimed my nurse Dean art!! And then just about died when I started reading the incredible fic she wrote (especially considering the tight DCRB timeline! You might recognize that pose and font in the banner 😅 yes, we are both very unwell about Heated Rivalry, so much so that this Supernatural medical AU ended up being partially inspired by it.

Thank you again @salamitsunami1 for claiming my art! I'm so glad you're not over writing nurse Dean, because I will never be over reading your take on him. It was so fun screaming at you and watching what that big beautiful brain of yours came up with 💜

The fic is an Altered Carbon/Supernatural mash up: I thought stacks and vessels were very similar, and Owco did a mindblowing job at making everything dance together so deliciously! Let's start with the piece I'm most proud of, portrait of FemCas and Dean:

In the fic, Castiel uses both vessels (or sleeves, given it's an Altered Carbon AU) and goes by they/them pronouns, which I was absolutely obsessed with as I was reading. So I took my beloved canon FemCas as a reference and tried my hand, and I have to say this is probably the best thing I've drawn so far!

This below was the original piece I submitted for claims: it's missing the background because while working on it the piece suffered a watercolor masking fluid mishap and now it's full of rubbery gunk. I'm still proud of it, because I tried a lot of new things with it, like drawing Dean from reference, and the lighting for that pose was very difficult. I also love how Cas and FemCas are looking at each other, I wanted it to be a bit to inspire the writer, and it did!

This year's artwork for the @deancasreversebang event! I had the honor to work with the wonderful @imaginaryprotagonist this year, where she came up with a beautifully heart-twisting and heart-warming story! Go check it out here!!

Extra ramblings about the art down below!

The inspiration for this artwork came from listening to Taylor Swift's bonus track song "right where you left me." I was going through the Evermore album (since I hadn't heard all of the songs from there) and this song just immediately jumped out to me. The story in the song really captivated me, and eventually got me thinking about how Castiel watched over Dean during "The Man Who Would Be King" episode.

I thought, "What if... there was an alternate universe where Lisa actually breaks it off with Dean and Cas was there and watched the whole thing? Would he step in sooner? Would he let Dean ride it out on his own?" I listened to the song on repeat and thought about those questions while I drew this up. And luckily for me, my author came up with the perfect answers for my questions!

I freaking LOVE the banner! I knew that once I got the fic title, I wanted to draw something that sort of snap shot what the title meant for the story! I also love anything related to silhouettes, so I was extra excited to get this idea down on paper! ...er... digital paper! 😂

This drawing was SO different than what I usually come up with! I had never done something that was canon divergence/canon compliant and so it was a whole new world for me! But it was really fun! Especially since I got to work with my author who has written many other fantastic stories that work close to canon! I seriously cannot thank her enough for picking my art prompt and writing such an awesome story for it! 🥹🥹🥹

Art masterpost for DCRB 2026

I always love a good enemies to lovers, so I was lucky to have my art claimed by Michelle P for this year's DeanCas reverse bang! We were on the same page (ha, ha) about many ideas, and she came up with a fantastic story to go with the banner art.

Then, I went overboard with the art. I had so much fun in the world she (we) had created and I love drawing tattoos. I'm not really a believer in the notion that a tattoo always need a Deep Meaning (most of mine certainly don't), but I *do* think that the tattoos a person picks will say a lot about them, and their history; which makes them an interesting tool for storytelling.

I've drawn Cas with tattoos before, and to me, he'd have one depicting a Leviathan. This one is biting its own tail. I think this version of Cas would also have a tramp stamp. With bees, of course!

I couldn't resist making cleaner, more detailed versions of Dean's tattoos, too. I think if Dean had tattoos, they'd be american traditional, maybe neotrad. Classic motifs in any case!

And the Zeppelin is made of lead, and going down. Pb for lead, but also, profound bond? It's on fire, anyway

Finally, a demon knife through his heart, because whichever Dean you pick – canon or AU – it seems like there's always a trail of broken hearts behind him.

I've had so much fun, and I hope it shows in the art.

Forced to reassess everything he believes, he finds himself drawn to a strange man in a trench coat, and discovers that maybe fate doesn't always make mistakes. Sometimes, it gives you exactly what you need.
